I remember Rin saying she challenged that rep to a fight... and promptly beat her down for the title.

So yeah, automatic. (Cause only named characters will ever beat a personal unit with a non-personal)(Refer to austin powers logic)

Actually, she implied that she merely threatened her and said student give up.

....however we're talking about Yui friggin Kotegawa. As Charles put it: "Hopeless", subverted when Dan stop their fight just before Yui can show her actual potential, and convinced Yui to let Rin do as she please. Thus Rin become a Class Rep, Yui left him in disdain, seeing him as coward (Dan has his own reason of course)

(Nitpick: Yui is using a Raphael without adjusting it prior to battle)

Of course, Ichika nearly curb stomp Rin is inevitable, considering he is trained for 2.5 years, compared to her 6 month crash course....
