Sounds like your CPU's are too weak to handle "post" processing.
Also, softsubs will eat more CPU than hardsubs for obvious reasons. And 848x480 is mod16 which is good. 853x480 is not mod16 so the actual encode should not be in that resolution.

What I meant was, there are complaints that gg's Umineko which is 848x480 and displayed in 853x480 is lagging, but the encodes at 848x480 without ratio correction are fine. Assuming the bitrate/method of encoding didn't change (mucH), then that would be the problem.

What does strike me as odd is that your 480p encodes of Umineko:
Episode 6 shows aspect ratio correction 853x480, actual resolution 848x480. This encode, and all previous encodes, run sluggishly and have problems. Episode 7 does not show aspect ratio correction and runs without problems.

Your renderer probably try to create a 853x480 video surface (instead of a 854x480), your video card refuse and you fall back on full software rendering. Bakemonogatari is a 720p video the problem could come from your CPU not being good enough In my case I have had absolutely no problem with all of those video. |

Have you tried using the Overlay Mixer renderer in Media Player Classic (not windows media player)? The "System Default" MPC uses for XP is actually VMR7 which uses DirectX.
Tran225 I think your 3Ghz P4 is good enough for 720p material. Have you tried other 720p files besides [gg] Bakemonogatari? But, Black Friday is always a good time to get a new machine too |

Just certain files from [gg] are not playing right. I tested a bunch of 720p releases, all of 'em worked fine.

I should try to underclock my E6750 to see the minimal clock speed it can use to decode 720p. From my test on a Athlon X2 that was near the 1.4-1.6Ghz mark (with a little margin). But if you can't play 480p files then the problem is with the setting of your player more than on anything else so try a different renderer or change the display resolution in the file. |

yes have tried Nire's Spice and Wolf II file size was approx 348k-ish .mkv about the size of gg's bakemonogatari also and it had audio desync with picture too |
