Yeah, had to laugh at the number of similarities between this and Asterisk, right down to the core[of the 1st ep]. I'd still give a few points in Rakudai's favor; Ikki was a more enjoyable protagonist than Ayato was, and didn't seem as...naive. All-in-all, I enjoyed both series and their respective battles, so I'll keep watching for now =09.

Haven't watched the first episode, but looks like this is off to a bad start. What's the general opinion in Japan about this show?

even though it's hilarious and has some thought, i still think offering to take your shirt off for the sake of fairness was bit dense if we're using real world logic here.

still made me lol none the less.

This series is obviously promoting gender equality, in terms of "fanservice" as well.

Weird, I didn't hate it even though it was very by the books and clichéd (I knew before watching it that he would get slapped within five minutes of it beginning) will keep watching until it gets annoying.

I think we might need a bingo card thread for these kind of anime at some point.

That's the "fault" of the publishers and artist, not the author.

i highly doubt the author didn't at least have a say in the matter of his own work but whatevs i guess.

looking forward to shizuku's introduction, it will be a really fun time here considering her 'boldness'...

As many people said, Rakudai was well received, and even better than Asterisk. Even on other forums the same thing happened.

Here on AS is like 50-50 but as far as I can see we have just one guy going rampage because people who haven't read the LN's started a comparison between both episodes and yes they were literally identical but eveything changes from ep 2 for both series.

By the way, they're going to adapt the first 3 volumes?

That art and animation... . The background art is so beautiful...

Is this really made by Silver Link, not Ufotable?

Solid first ep so far. I enjoyed it. I hope they will keep up this quality.

I can't even imagine the horror if this had been done by IMS instead...

Mark me down on the plus side. Ikki's pretty cool. That cuckoo offer to take his clothes off was lovely. (Although I have read part of the manga, and knew it was coming.) And the even more cuckoo -- but quite innocent and instinctive -- way the princess climbed all over him in his bed was nice, too.

The fight worked. It was one of the very few times I have hoped a fight would go on a bit longer.

And after everything, the final fist-bump gave me a hit of emotion: they can be a team.

Ousaka Ryouta's voice is smooth here, gives me a sense of Ikki's pleasant power. And Ishigami Shizuka is doing great, so far. She's real, and she's a textbook tsundere, and they both work for me.

I liked Asterisk, too, though, so maybe this is just my first-episode syndrome, where the effort they put into the first episode and my longing for a show to enjoy come together in unrealistic appreciation. In any case, I'll be back.

That was...actually very good. The episode exceeded my expectations, actually. Hope they can keep the quality of the adaption in future episodes. Oh, and it always amuses me to see Stella acting like a pervert in all three media .

This and Asterisk are almost the exact same thing.
That being said I like the fire redhead in this one better so far.
