My thanks as well. A fascinating video.
I also appreciated the commentator's remarks on physical and mental training. Her point about training oneself to have positive internal thoughts and reactions suggests that the sort of self-doubts we see with some of the characters are an actual weakness.

I don't know if anyone created an independent thread for this. If one exists, please feel free to move the post. Anyway, here it is, the trailer for the first movie in the two-part silver-screen adaptation of Chihayafuru. According to the official site, the first film will open on March 19, 2016. The second movie will screen on April 29, 2016. ================== The first thing that came to my mind is that Arata fans must be giggling with glee. Mckenyu (apparently the son of Sonny Chiba, a mega Japanese movie star, well-known especially for his martial arts flicks), makes for terrific eye candy, and with him in the role, Arata looks far less like the nerd he is in the anime and manga. As for Taichi, he's played by Shuhei Nomura, who reminds me of a very much younger version of Yutaka Takenouchi (Beach Boys). Suzu Hirose, unfortunately, seems a bit too plain to carry the role of Chihaya. But that's just me, I guess. Maybe she'll make up for it with the intensity of acting (I hope!). |

Wow, Arata really looks good in the live action version. He looks like a nice, intelligent, and still good looking. As for Taichi, I already have bad vibes watching him. I just don't like the actor. Well, at least they probably did well with the casting if I feel that way about them.
As for Chihaya, I think they did okay. She is not the thin model figure, but she has just enough beauty and goofiness to make it work. She looks good in her role, from the previews.

Not entirely sure what the direction will be for the films but on the positive side I'm a bit encouraged by the fact that a section of the introduction page, currently on the official website, is devoted to the poetry of Hyakunin Isshu. The text and a brief introduction is given for four of the poems: Chihayafuru (17), Morotomo ni (66), Se o hayami (77) and Ukari keru (74).

Chihayaburu and Morotomo ni were also the poems picked for Hirose’s photo entries in this week's Twitter campaign.
Poem 66 was previously used several times in the animated series - the second verse was the fourteenth episode title in season one, it was among the cards shown in the opening credit sequence and appeared in some scenes ... Kana recites it to herself before Chihaya arrives in the Ōe store … for example... Question about episode twenty-five of the second season. As Chihaya is doing homework in the hospital she remembers one of Kana’s lectures and poetry starts scrolling and then repeating behind her. Visible: おもふころかな which is from 48 Kaze o itami ぬる later にほひぬる from 61 Inishie no しるしなりける from 98 Kaze soyogu ものをこそおもへ from 49 Mikakimori じに later あさのゆふじに which I've been unable to trace to a poem from the Ogura Hyakunin Isshu collection うつりにけりな from 09 Hana no iro wa Can someone identify where that あさのゆふじに may have come from? Replying here, because it also gives me the opportunity to post a few links in this thread.
Shinobu has always been among the favourite characters in every version of this universe for me as well and the moment you picked illustrates why quite well but ... before we get ahead of ourselves I'd like to see her in a five match play-off at Omi Jingu first before it is decided who gets to sit opposite her in that speculative scenario - I would not mind the match-up you suggest for the aftermath. There are many good candidates besides them... I hope it is ok to mention here that NTV hosts the two Chihayafuru seasons, as well as more recently, the two -divergent- Live Action films, for their subscriber "On Demand" streaming service: Search and direct link for Season two. Amazon JP Prime membership gives access to the first episode of both seasons -offered as previews without additional charges- but the other episodes of each season require rental fee payment for Prime members as well. The two Live Action films released so far have also been made available for a rental fee there. ... and in September 2016, ANN announced that Sentai Filmworks Licenses Chihayafuru Anime. |

『ちはやふる 秀歌撰』
Not the third season of the anime.
Not entirely sure what this is or what to expect. At first I thought this might be another rebroadcast of the animated series - as in 2016 in the months leading up to the theatrical release of "Kami no Ku" - but that may not be what this particular announcement is about. There is certainly more to it than that even if that is part of it... As I understand this news ... There will be twelve weekly "programs" exclusively made for NTV -to be broadcast on its exclusive "channel/broadcast time slot/block" 日本テレビAnichU - starting, approximately two hours after midnight, on Tuesday January 9, 2018 (01:59 Wednesday January 10) JST. This 12 part series -with episodes of undetermined length -quite possibly within that 1 hour time period of AnichU - and exact nature unknown to me- has been created to celebrate the upcoming release of Chihayafuru: Musubi and to celebrate the 10th anniversary - the ten year serialisation run of the original manga. These twelve programs will involve cast members from the live action films. One of the twelve episodes will include the first time TV broadcast of the OVA - the special episode footage from the DVD bundled with the special edition of manga volume 22, titled: 「わがみよにふる ながめせしまに」. This announcement has on second thought been moved to this season two thread, in part, for that reason. Subject to change - stay tuned for more details. Feel free to correct or augment... Originally posted, based on an announcement retweeted on the Be Love feed from Mantanweb, web. Among other sites where this same news item is being spread. 『ちはやふる 秀歌撰』 [「ちはやふる・しゅうかせん」(Chihayafuru Syuukasen - per NTV)] - has its own web page on the NTV website. December 26, 2017: お久しぶりです - It has been a while, but today there was activity on the TVアニメ「ちはやふる」 [TV Anime Chihayafuru] Twitter account. A confirmation message from NTV regarding the upcoming television specials to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the original series and the upcoming "Chihayafuru: Musubi" live action film. January 10. 2018: Looks like this is going to be very much a regional affair with only certain NTV affiliate stations picking it up in a few prefectures. Based on: https://tv.yahoo.co.jp/program/38900901/ https://tv.yahoo.co.jp/program/?sid=419204&a=10 The title in the summary of the first special,「さくやこのはな」, indicates a repeat of Anime Season 1, Episode 1 - with a bit of time to spare in the program, based on the time-slot allocated: 2018年1月9日(火) 26時04分~26時39分. Sounds like a message from Suzu Hirose, recorded at Omi Jingu, was included in the broadcast... which also included a "digest" segment for the live action films. Next week ちはやふる 秀歌撰 #2 AnichU,「からくれなゐに」, a.o things, the title of anime Season 1, Episode 2. January 17: Episode 2 of the NTV specials included a message from Mio Yūki (Hanano Sumire) and the re-run of S1, E2. The animation episode once again followed by a mini documentary about the Live Action films. Preview scenes and behind the scenes footage as well as on-set interviews. As before, these clips and stills from the films invite questions about the kimono each of the cast members is seen wearing. Were these garments found by the wardrobe department or perhaps created for their roles? Either way, it is interesting to wonder who selected them and ponder if the designs and particular patterns played any significant role in their selection process. Same time next week - Regional: ちはやふる 秀歌撰 #3 AnichU 01月24日(水)2:04~2:39 「ふれるしらゆき」 is, a.o things, the title of anime Season 1, Episode 3. January 24: Patterns becoming familiar? Hayato Sano (Akihiro Tsukuba) delivered this week's message. He too did so standing in front of those familiar hanging scrolls. The re-run remained in sequence: S1, E3. The replayed episode once again followed by a mini documentary about the Live-Action films. Preview scenes and behind the scenes footage as well as on-set interviews. Next week. Regional: ちはやふる 秀歌撰 #4 AnichU 01月31日(水)2:05~2:40. Or late night Tue. Jan. 30, depending on how days are scheduled and line-ups are organised. 「しつこころなくはなのちるらむ」 is, a.o things, the title of anime Season 1, Episode 4. January 31: Kaya Kiyohara (Io Wagatsuma) presented this week's message, standing in front of that tokonoma. Another location, the Mizusawa clubroom, once again featured prominently behind the cast interviewed for this week's instalment. Next. Regional: ちはやふる 秀歌撰 #5 AnichU 02月07日(水)2:05~2:40 「よはのつきかな」 is, a.o things, the title of anime Season 1, Episode 5. February 7: Introducing himself as Arata Mackenyu, the actor for the role of Arata Wataya was picked to present this week's message about the upcoming Musubi film to the TV audience. The fifth episode of the animated series, in the fifth instalment of this program, was once more followed by a mini documentary about the live-ction films. Preview scenes from "Musubi", behind the scenes footage as well as on-set interviews from the production. Looks like next week's instalment will break the sequence of re-runs from the animated series, probably set to jump ahead to the episode given the title 「ゆくもかへるもわかれては」- Which is, a.o things, the title of anime Season 1, Episode 10. Regional: ちはやふる 秀歌撰 #6 AnichU 02月14日(水)2:15~2:50 [Mind the gap]. Last edited by Verso Sciolto; 2018-02-13 at 06:47. |

Not necessarily about the third season of the anime.
[Mind the gap]. Curious why the skip forward in time took place here, but ... Regional: [ちはやふる 秀歌撰 #6 AnichU - 「ゆくもかへるもわかれては」- aired 02月14日(水)2:15~2:50. Mone Kamishiraishi (Ōe Kanade) provided the well positioned message that day. A mini-documentary followed the episode... resuming a sequence. ちはやふる 秀歌撰 #7 - 「あまつかぜ」- aired 02月21日(水)2:09~2:44. Given a title which is, a.o things, the title of anime Season 1, Episode 11. Yuma Yamoto (Yūsei Nishida) introduced himself and the upcoming live-action film. The mini doc time was reportedly used for an intro of the Hulu Japan specials: ちはやふる-繋ぐ- of which three episodes and ちはやふる-学び- have been broadcast to date. Regionally. Each with their own title and a mini "Making of" documentary appended. Later today, or early tomorrow morning, JST: ちはやふる 秀歌撰 #8 AnichU (02月28日(水)2:05~2:40)「むらさきのゆきしめのゆき」Which is, a.o things, the title of anime Season 1, Episode 12. Curious if the additional time this time will be devoted to the upcoming live action film or if some time will be spent on the announced third season - scheduled for 2019 in the same broadcasting block. That season will probably be picked up by NTV affiliates in more regions than 秀歌撰 has been. Hopefully. |
