Lets not talk in detail about the Spiders just yet. Lets just say that all of them are abnormal.
Seriously there is no better way to describe them. There is a reason why they are still at large despite having massive bounties on their heads. Anyway, on to the Heaven's Arena arc. We immediately get introduced to the concept of Nen, which will be playing a very large role in the series from here on in. This is where the world and its 'rules' starts to become interesting. |

That's the main reason why I'm very excited for this particular arc. Nen's rules are VERY interesting, specially the power categories on Hatsu. I really can't wait to see fights using Nen with this level of animation.

Oh man Nen is so awesome. Hisoka stopping them because they weren't ready was interesting. So Wing will teach them. I wonder how much they can learn in 3 hours though. I wonder if Wing has been to the before, he sure is one strong guy.

One thing I love about this series is how differently the characters react to certain situations and how this helps us learn more about them, without the use of exposition.
For example, this episode has an excellent moment in which Killua and Gon just reach floor 200 and they approach the hallway with the mysterious force that stops them dead in their tracks. Killua, not Gon, is the one who leads the charge into the hallways. In fact, Gon doesn't want to go. Though It seems to me that Killua knows that this force is something akin to his brother's abilities, and instead of staying away (as Illumi and his father have advised Killua to do his whole life, in the face of a true threat) he marches in. Just to show that they don't control him. Or to prove to himself that they don't. However, when they eventually learn that it's Hisoka's aura that is keeping them from moving forward, Gon is the one who pushes forward, not Killua (who I suspect refuses to move forward, now knowing it's hisoka, showing that he's still controlled by the instincts that were hammered into him). This shows just how determined Gon is in facing Hisoka once again. I just love how this story presents and forms its characters. Another great episode, in my opinion. |

Perhaps the echoes from various places on the internet about how Hunter x Hunter 1999 was so much better than the "kids friendly" 2011 version. I clearly remember someone flipping his shit over how there were women in the Hunter Exam.

Its a good and unique story.
I was confident it would get great ratings. The only ones whining who have watched the 1999 and are whining are trying to compare the both which is never a good idea ... I have seen the 1999 series and i like it and now i watch the 2011 version and i also like it. hxh |

2011 is enjoyable. i dislike how they handled the hunter exam in general, but it has improved a lot since the zoldick arc. 1999 is still easily better, make no mistake, but 2011 stands well enough on its own.
april 15 - 2.7 (lowest so far) april 22 - 3.5 (below average) hope the ratings go back up. i still can't believe ep 27 got 2.7% when it had new opening, new ending and the new arc just started while a RECAP episode got 4.8% =/ |

The 2011 adaptation is definitely better than the 1999 so far. The !999 had way too many crappy fillers, and the drawings were too uneven. I tried to watch the old series again recently but realized I can't even sit through it (the early Hunter Exam - Heaven's Arena part). The 1999's characterization seems out of character too compare to manga.
