There's actually a good deal of discussion about exactly what was going on spread over the various threads here. I think the Movie Spoilers thread is most recent, but the Novel & Manga thread would also have some.

But...

There's the idea that Kyon was never actually passed out on the bed until he hit Enter, but rather there's only one time line and within the Disappearance days everyone's memory has been adjusted, and so have certain facts about reality. When Kyon hits Enter, reality shifts back to the way it was.

It's the best explanation currently, probably. But, like I said outside the spoiler box, there's been a good deal of discussion about it around here, and in at least one or two threads.

That's what is under debate and is what is suggested within the story. I think that's what's suggested within the story. It's all a little bit confusing.

there is only one timeline and it's just that reality was shifted for those three or however many days. There was only ever one Kyon. I mean, okay, there are two of him at one point, but that's because one is from the future. And there's like three or something at another point, but that's because of going into the past. The timeline from 17 Dec through 21 Dec, or whatever the days are, that Kyon experiences? he doesn't have another self living the alternate option, because there isn't an alternate option until everybody's memories get tuned to match it.

It's like if you're talking about an image, right? And usually it has 3 alpha channels. But on 17 Dec, for some reason, you only ever see the red channel. You remember seeing all three, red-green-blue, but everyone else only remembers the red, so they don't think it's strange even if you do. But then on 21 Dec, you're suddenly seeing all three again, and no one remembers only seeing red except you. They remember seeing all three channels during that period, but you have to piece together what the blue and green channels were from what you're told, because you don't have those memories. Reality has shifted and you are able to see and remember the shift, but everyone else only remembers the reality that they're currently experiencing. Or something like that.

I'm not saying this is definitely what happened, because we can probably debate it for a while, but it makes the most sense to me, especially since we haven't been introduced to sliders yet in the timeline.

Everything did not right itself just because Kyon suddenly pressed the 'ENTER' button. Remember, he had to go through enlisting the help of the others, Asakura's stabbing, and he saving himself before he woke up in his bed.

But yes, in theory, there was only one Kyon then. The world just warped into alt!Universe, then back, changing the facts along the way. Simple as that.

And that is how I came up with the alpha channel image explanation for myself when thinking about the Disappearance timeline. It's rough and doesn't really fit everything (I mean, Yuki is able to know all three versions of reality - so I guess she's the person with the image editor? except she's in the story...) but it's enough for me for now.

I'm impatient for November and the Little, Brown edition of the book, since it'll be easier to read rather than on the computer screen.

So i got a few questions.. why? im mega confused.
After i watched "the melncholy of haruhi suzumiya" and "the disappearance of suzumiya haruhi" i find out that i mugh have seen them in the wrong .. logical order i guess. Yea it was saying it on wiki.

Could someone enlight me about that? How did "the melancholy of haruhi" end? and the disappearance of haruhi ? (just to be sure i saw the in the right order with the right ending)

What is the lastest chapter? the disapperance? version of 2009?
There will be more chapters comeing out?
About the movei.. is there really a movie? (heard something about 2010)

There are currently 28 episodes and one movie in the Haruhi Suzumiya Series. 14 episodes were broadcast out of chronological order in 2006 to end with "The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya VI" The real chronological ending to the series was the ninth episode aired: "Someday in the Rain."

Three years after the first episode aired, there was a "re-airing" of the show, but in true chronological order and 14 additional episodes. Up until the eighth episode, the material was all from 2006, but the eighth episode was a new episode entitled "Bamboo Leaf Rhapsody." After that episode, three older episodes aired and then "Endless Eight" started. The fanbase was stuck in an endless summer for two months (8 episodes) until it ended and "The Sigh of Haruhi Suzumiya I-V" aired. The "re-airing" closed with the final four episodes from 2006 and ended with "Someday in the Rain."

Immediately following "Someday in the Rain" was a teaser commercial advertising the movie "The Disappearance/Vanishment of Haruhi Suzumiya." This came out February 6th in Japan.

For the 2006 episodes, the episode order was supposed to be jumbled, but for 2009, it was better that the stories were told in the chronological order to not confuse any new fans that may watch and to remind fans of the true order for the movie that followed.

As for how you were supposed to watch them, I myself tend to advise people to watch the episodes in the 2009 "re-airing" order which is as follows:

1. The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya I
2. The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya II
3. The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya III
4. The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya IV
5. The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya V
6. The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya VI
7. The Boredom of Haruhi Suzumiya
8. Bamboo Leaf Rhapsody
9. Mysterique Sign
10. Lone Island Sydrome (First Part)
11. Lone Island Syndrome (Second Part)
12. Endless Eight (I-VIII) It's only necessary to watch the last one, but your taste may vary
13. The Sigh of Haruhi Suzumiya I
14. The Sigh of Haruhi Suzumiya II
15. The Sigh of Haruhi Suzumiya III
16. The Sigh of Haruhi Suzumiya IV
17. The Sigh of Haruhi Suzumiya V
18. The Adventures of Mikuru Asahina Episode 00
19. Live a Live

Though the movie doesn't really end until another novel's prologue, so I can see how you'd be confused about that ending

Currently there are 9 novels in the series (with the first part of the 10th novel coming out this month). We have now finished all of books 1-4, 2/3rds of book 5, and 2/5ths of book 6. There's still 1/3 of book 5, 3/5ths of book 6, and novels 7-9 to be animated (as well as book 10, but no one knows when that will be out).

As for another season of Haruhi, no fan knows for certain yet.

Dose the 2009 re-airing order combines "the melancholy" with "the disappearance" .

Dont really know how to ..form my question without breakeing a rule ..trying my best lol.

There are 8 total episodes of Endless Eight. Since I only stated it once, there are 7 more iterations that were not counted in the list.

The 2009 "re-airing" was done to set up the Disappearance movie and to tie it together with the TV anime since it would be the next step chronologically.

What's going around the internet as the "second season" is a re-airing of the show in 2009 that added 14 episodes (commonly referred as the new season) into the chronological order of the 2006 airing. That re-airing is complete on every TV station it was aired on except for RKK Kumahon, which chose to air the 28 episodes after every other station, and they will finish airing in 3 weeks. It has been fully released on DVD in Japan, so it is complete.

(This is purely my own speculation and is not meant to be taken as fact) As for your question, the kiss makes Haruhi believe that she's in a dream and as such she and Kyon travel back to the normal world. She didn't know that Kyon had an interest in her and she felt that he would never do that in real life, thus it had to be a dream.

Where it says it is on-going? It is not, it is finished. Both the First Season and the 2009 re-airing were already finished some time ago. I don't know where you had read it but it is wrong, not that this subforum is under "Older Series"
