lol, very good final episode, i'm already missing it
Turns out which i was right the guy was really hotaru big brother and based on they talks, now make sense hotaru disappear, she was called by her family because of her "brother" which was supposed to get the company but "disappeared" then the family called her to take on his work. WoW, poor kokonutsu, everyone want's a piece of him, run kokonutso!!!! run!!!!!!!. The new characters was a good adittion my only complain was really the fact which hotaru had to disappear for the new characters come and we ended with too few hotaru, but which now it's seens she is back and now she knows where her "runaway brother is she don't need anymore to take on his work and disappear. Really a good end, i will give for this serie 6.5 /10 just because the lack of hotaru.

Hmm...I think overall, the second season was slightly weaker to the first. It took me a bit of time to accept the new characters, in particular Hajime. That other guy introduced in the show didn't really click with me and felt like his personality was kinda forced.
In the meantime, I'm glad to see Hotaru return and reunite with the characters. The series does feel different without her. Personally, I'm glad this season was half length as sometimes, it felt like a full length show for this particular anime felt too long.

My first hunch was right, he really was Hotaru's brother. Hotaru and Coconuts' reunion was nice, but I wish they hadn't completely glossed over Hotaru's reasons for vanishing without notifying anybody.
6/10 for this season. Lack of Hotaru really hurt. It just isn't the same without her.

Finally finished the second season, and it ended in a somehow bittersweet note. I dunno, that moment of failure for Kokonotsu felt like a wake up call not only for him but for the viewers. It's a harsh reminder that "time is running out" and he doesn't have all the time in the world to decide on whether he would succeed his father's dagashi shop or become a manga artist. All the sweetness of the dagashi featured in the series thus far was just there to serve as a contrast to the actual harsh reality Kokonotsu is facing.
His father is not getting any younger. The family business is facing a steep decline. He hasn't decided on what he must become in the future. Amidst all this, Hotaru serves as the fairy that can whisk him away to a faraway place where all his problems don't matter... but there comes a time where Hotaru's magic won't save him from the pain of reality. It's fast approaching. And it's not gonna be all sugary.

Man, I really don't like how Tezuka Productions designed the characters in the second season. WHY ARE THE COLORS SO DARK? Why are the character faces less attractive?
That being said, I did enjoy the season. But I can't really get on board with Hotaru x Kokonotsu. It's just...she's so....Cloud Cuckoolander? And she really only seems to care about dagashi. I don't think she's thinking about romance at all. And he only seems to be into her for her looks. Overall, it feels rather forced and shallow. Saya on the other hand supports her childhood friend's dreams to be a manga-ka. She wants what makes him happiest. I think he'd have a much stronger relationship with her. Now just confess. I thought Hajime was a real flake at first...but the scene with her LOLING over the web design marquees won me over. The most fun part of Dagashi Kashi is learning about Japanese snacks. I hope I can make a trip to Tokyo Foodstore downtown and find some of them there!
