can anyone tell me if there is ACTUALLY romance in this? not HINTS
does the characters at the end up season (like Natalie/Hannah) end up with a GUY at the end of the series? can anyone please tell me before I watch it all in hopes of nothing?

No they don't. No one ends up with anyone in the first generation. Don't put your hopes up.

Ah...I remember watching this when it was just released in Japan, was years ago.

i was watching for this for a while dubbed and i like the honoka/kirea matchup same as the natalie/fergie
they dont end up.... might as well quit the series

Well, after reading a comment on how this franchise was the spiritual predecessor of series like Nanoha and Mai-Hime, checking the cast list and seeing that the battle designer for the series was the same guy who worked in the Dragon Ball series, I decided to give a try to the first season.

Spoiler for my opinion of the first season:

Overall it is a series I would recommend to anyone if you are bored during a weekend and have nothing to do. Turn off your brain and enjoy the ride. Despite all of its failings, I would rate it as one of the best series the mahou shoujo genre has to offer to guys before the advent of series like Nanoha, as I mentioned in my introductory paragraph.

Proto random rating 7.4. Good series, it was worth my time. Nothing spectacular, but I'm left satisfied.

i will post my opinions on max hearth later today.

totally random offtopic comment: Maybe it's just me, but I have always wanted to watch a series of this genre where there is a third, agressive neutral faction bent on the balance between good and evil and who keeps alternatively helping the good and bad guys. Anyone know of anything on those lines?

Spoiler for my opinion of the first season: Anyway, even though it is not without its faults, the series is quite good, character interaction wise and whatnot. Personally I was never tired of the antics of the main cast and sometimes even of those of the villians. The series could have really been helped a lot if they had decided to half the episode count given the amount of repetition that goes around, but it is still good. The first half, bar the excellent fighting scenes (I saw at least one DB ref per episode ), was pretty much standard Mahou shoujo stuff with a tad of a shade of garness, if that makes sense. The last episodes after Kiriya makes his move turned it for the better, but overall it was just decent. During the second half the series turned for the better. Personally I was really, really enthralled by the whole motivation shift the new bad guys went through (though in the end they were just given the Starscreamed treatment, I would have prefered if they had given more screentime, but I was satisfied by what I got. I was never eally bothered by Mepple, Mipple and Porun silly antics, but as mentioned earlier the series suffered from sheer repetition of the same odd formula for much of the series. Apart from the, Honoka and Nagisa character where really, really endearing, and that episode where Nagisa was forced to fight alone in order to reach Honoka was really emotional in that sense.
