As soon as I walked into my place today and turned on the TV; a familiar song started playing. There was a lawyer talking about "SETTLING THE DEAL" on a commercial and then the background music starts. It's Yoko Kanno's "Paradise" that started playing. I opened up my Wolf's Rain CDs to verify my claim and I was right. I even scouted for the portion used in the commercial; those attorneys used a Yoko Kanno song!

Sorry, I like providing useless factoids. >_>

finally I've been able to listen to more song from Ragnarok II, many of them is heavily influenced by Secret Garden (especially the track Koukai FO and DinDonDanDanNon), very relaxing to listen to

several months ago i found out that Yoko Kanno worked ont he music of Oban Star Racers which was being broadcasted in our country, i had no clue and i was quite amazed by it, since it was a western project worked on with Japan

her current Darker than Black work is awsome, i must say that

Cowboy BeBop Blue Opening Choral

I think I cracked the holy grail

Praesum Messiah ut
I Beg You a Request Messiah
Tuga di cantus
in order to offer up (to a higher power/superstruture) (with) a song
una di cantus
in order to be together with a song
ooya di cantus
to the Lord or Lady with a song
I think, after cracking the lyrics to Niji from Eureka Seven Final Closer (Cowboy Bebop alumnus Dai Sato), it is consistent with the show writer's beliefs. Niji begins with a chorus (definitely in the live version, I heard the studio version and its not in the Niji Studio Version) that goes something like the labyrinth to the the heart is the stairway to heaven.

In the first verse we see the request going to the higher power. In the second part the together is possibly in reference to Julia, which opens up Spike's heart and allows Spike the passage to request the Lord or Lady directly in the last verse. I think the last verse includes Lord or Lady because a Lady wrote the song.

I really have to tell you

Yoko and Gabriella Robin are different persons!

if you had found the view of yoko's concert for Gundam
then you can see Gabriella Robin sing THE WAY TO THE RIVER
they are not the same (i'm sorry to tell you )

but Gabriella Robin is still a mystery to most people

I'm really happy that so many people like yoko (I used to think she is underground)

I think the singers she found also add to her success
Gabriella Robin ,Scott Matthew ,ORIGA ,Kokia,,新居昭乃(I forgot her English name ,she sang the song called Voice)steve,AKINO ,especially Ilaria Graziano and Maaya…………etc

yoko introduce them to us and their voices are addictive but it's difficult to find information on them. this made me more fond of the songs.

I'd love to know what gave you that impression.

Yoko Kanno is one of the main musical artists in the anime score business, i'm sure every knows that.

most Chinese students are not friendly with Japan
Nobody says they like something from Japan even though many of them like anime from Japan
I like yoko but I have never heard of anyone who talks about her
It's strange
And I think most of yoko's songs are not easy to be accepted .I myself have to listen to them many times to love them.So i'm not sure they will like the songs if I recommend the songs to my friends .

You know, I watched the concert and I can't remember that particular song (I haven't listened enough to the Turn A Gundam soundtrack), however, the song "Moon", originally sung by "Gabriela Robin", is sung by Origa in that same concert, so I think we have enough reason to doubt that the one singing The Way to the River was really Gabriela Robin.

That's right but on Yoko's latest Ragnarok 2 Concert.the song トルキア (from gis ost) was performed by 坂本真綾(Maaya)、山根麻衣(Mai)and Origa ,so was the song 指輪.It's usual to change the singer of the song in Yoko's concert, that's what made me more interested in the concert .
Maybe I got confused ,sorry

I think about the matter for some days and I found I had confused my dream with reality(incredible, but in fact as an anime fan I always do silly things like that ).I had dreamed that Gabriela Robin sing a song in a concert ,I was so amazed and woke up .Then I forgot the dream but I remembered I had seen Gabriela.I can still remember her appearance! I didn't realize that's just a dream until WanderingKnight told me Gabriela didn't sing that song.Oh what can I say,I just love Gabriela so much

Has anyone listened to the recently released Ghost in the Shell Stand Alone Complex OST 4? (It comes as a bonus with the GITS SAC OST Boxset). It's like mixing Yoko Kanno, crack, lots of free time and jazzy-electronica-chillout music and a strange way of releasing the music (it's a 49 minutes single-track CD) and labeling it GITS :S

I love it anyways

Hey there. I'm in need of some Kanno recommendations. I know (and love) the Cowboy Bebop OST but that's it. And I'm hesitant to just randomly buy something of her huge discography. So which CDs can you recommend me? I don't care much for the series the OSTs belong to, I just want the music. ^^

Quick question before i go recommending--- is her Cowboy Bepop work all you've heard?

If so, you'll wanna go for Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex, or Darker than Black. Both see Yoko's Bepop style, which i'm sure you'll love.

For something more epic, and music you just have to hear --- you have Turn A Gundam's score, and Escaflowne.

As far as I know, yes. She might have done the soundtrack for something I have watched but Cowboy Bebop is the only one I'm aware of.
And I'll check the ones out you mentioned. Maybe I'll even come around to watching Darker than Black, Ghost in the Shell and Escaflowne some time...I've got them here but I lack the time.

Indeed, its one thing listening to a musical score --- though i believe you'll truly learn to appreciate her work when listening within the series.
