Light novel series 'Nanatsu no Maken ga Shihai' (Reign of the Seven Spellblades) is getting an anime adaptation.

Synopsis

Spring. In the prestigious magic school of Kimberly, this year ushers in another wave of new students. Clothed in black robes with a white cane and sword strapped to the hip, within his chest he hides pride and a mission. As the sakura flutter in full bloom, the budding magicians are welcomed by a parade of magic creatures. However, they were allowed only a moment of leisure. An underground labyrinth that swallows up students on whim, upperclassmen that resemble monsters, and a faction that opposes human rights for demi-humans. While trying to survive in an ominous and terrifying place with his companions, Oliver forms a connection with a single girl with a Japanese sword strapped to her hip, the samurai girl Nanao. That's the general feel of it, yes. except it's less power/battle crazy and more crazy about their own research field/ research goal.

I was waiting for this! This is one of my favorite LN series of recent years. It's quite excellent, so I hope the anime will do it justice.

I am interested in the depiction of magic there. Basically, the spells are formed as "letters" which are combined to bring forth a desired effect. It reminds me of how Rokudenashi has a decently conceptualized magic system where you can identify a spell with the magic circle size and color as well as how many lines the incantation used has.

Hmm... I think I'm going to abstain from posting a recap and review until I see the second or third episode. It's giving me Sword Oratoria vibes and I never forgave J.C. Staff for that one. More so considering the Prologue gives you the immediate hook and they skip it.

What If Mashle was till a bit of a Harry Potter send-up but this time more serious and atmospheric? At least that's the vibes I'm getting so far (nice to see JC Staff delivering on the visuals) .

Oh look, Ron and Hermoine arguing about the state of Trolls. That takes me back .

Nothing brings a cast together quite like trying to save one of their own from a prank that nearly gets her killed by a Troll! Though the Samurai girl with the transforming hair into white steals the show almost as much as Oliver's strategies do. Also seems like Oliver and Nanao are destined to fight .

Ah yes, you gotta get the busty headmaster in there who brokers no fools, especially in a school where only 80% survive and don't get consumed by their magic...but if you are, I guess make sure there's still something left of you that's worth anything .

So we've got Michela, the mature and responsible Ojou, Katie the cute animal lover, Guy who is basically The Guy and has farming knowledge, Peter who is an "ordinary" or I guess Muggle-born who is also a cute male tsundere, Oliver the team mom, and Nanao who is a dorky but capable Samurai girl. Quite the eclectic cast !

Seems like Oliver's got more going on if he's got someone watching and supporting him from the shadows. To be honest I kind of wonder why he's living with his grandfather and treating his cousins as siblings .

Nanao wasn't kidding about being involved in a war, look at all those scars...not that it detracts from her beauty, and Oliver is quite the gentleman to make sure no can see her. This also isn't his first topless lady. Though seems like fate is connecting Oliver and Nanao somehow, especially when she ends up topless in his jacket, which is quite the sight !

Pretty good first episode. Magical school felt quite magical from get to go, two main characters have certain intrigue and side ones don't drag it down either.

Well, that was something. So far it has to fight with Undead Girl Murder Farce for best new show of the season (Mushoku Tensei is a continuation and therefore doesn't count in that competition), but it is definitely very high quality.

The first episode had a bit to much exposition for me but I hve high hopes for it. Also, min heroines character surprised me.
