I have to ask given my experience attending one of her autograph sessions at Otakon: did Ai Nonaka dress up for the occassion?

Will this thread be incorporated into the Negima! subforum? Haven't read the manga yet though.

Episode 1:

Lol, they didn't waste any time showing off the fan service in this anime. I mean, even the first opening minutes had the girls barely dressed.

I think the OP song is fine so far, nothing too special but works for this show.
They didn't take time to introduce Yukihime right into this season. I think the highlight so far of this episode is the character chemistry between her and Touta. I like her voice acting tbh, fits for her character.

I feel the comedy is a hit or miss right now. Might have to get used to it like the manga. Action was okay, felt like it's more of a tease to set up for the bigger things. The second latter of this episode gave me more interest for this show and apparently, it's not afraid to show off some violence.

Why was Akira walking around the school in a swimsuit? I get she's from a swimming team, but aren't you supposing to dress up again before leaving the pool area?

Why does Negi sound so childlike? Even in the first anime, Satou Rina used to have less of a pipsqueak kiddy delivery to her Negi. Here he sounds like he's a toddler!

Overall Horie Yui seems to be the Negima cast member holding up the best, her Makie sounds just as fine now as she used to. Great job there.

The OP seems more fitting a pure harem comedy than any sort of action show. I was hoping for at least a few images of Powerful Hand, Fate's Ala Alba and Negi's team looming ominously and posing in a cool way, or something. The part with a huge pink heart downright reading aloud 'LOVE' was especially cringeworthy.

Ep1

It was pretty good and faithful. I am dissapointed in opening tho, hoped for something diffrent, maybe more of Fate and Negi.
Ending is sort of good, average.

Not exactly impressed. Content wise it was pretty faithful, but it felt like it crammed lot of stuff together. Bit more "show not tell" would help. Neither animation nor sound was stellar and voice acting was bit too "high tension".

Well, it's just first episode, so it has plenty of time improve.

Yukihime definitely looks like Hohenheim.

Overall it was a pretty solid start. They did hurry things along to end on that point though. And certainly made the Negima intro portion a bit cramped. "Hey guys....well bye now." At least we can say they aren't shy with this show. Within minutes we had several girls naked. Then we had Tota and Yukihime bleeding enough to fill a small pool. She could tell him to drink her blood, but they both bled so much I'd honestly be unsure which was hers .

It was better than I expected. Though to be fair I had few expectations so maybe that was a low bar .

There is eventually a turning point in the manga where the reader is expected the have read Negima and be familiar with the events. However, it is quite far into the manga. Before that, any elements that were brought over from Negima were accompanied with an explanation so new readers wouldn't be lost.

happy material go quite nostalgic.

Evangeline just as cool as i remember but even cooler in her adult form. Also i'm surprised to be seeing people get cut up into many pieces right in the first episode.

Yeah, they nailed the first ep. The op and ed animation were sort of meh, but the nostalgia of the first OP song was very real. Even though the start is sort of lackluster, they're adapting it faithfully. I can't wait until we get into the story. As a fan of the first series and as a long-time fan of Ken Akamatsu in general, I'm hopeful that he'll finally obtain ONE good anime adaptation of one of his works.

Akamatsu's doing the series composition for the anime alongside Yasukawa Shougo, so he's making sure the adaptation works out this time.

The nostalgia card's being played pretty strongly in the OP.

Oh god, I think my jaw dropped further then it did when i first started reading UQ Holder, I was not expecting such a gory plot twist so soon in a series.

The opening is serving as an interesting litmus test to see how long people have been around . Go Happy Material! The best awful sugary song ever.
