Komuro Takeshi from Highschool of the Dead - Able and willing to learn, pretty good leader (as far as I've seen), able to keep Saeko from killing us all.

Honorable Mentions:
Miyamoto Rei from Highschool of the Dead - eye candy and able to defend herself well. Kind of crazy...
Jill Valentine from Resident Evil - Made of tough stuff, able to defend herself, gets brainwashed or something IIRC. Also decent eye candy
Juliet and Nick from Lollipop Chainsaw - eye candy with chainsaw, unlimited stash of lollipops apparently, and a talking head.

I love that series *cough* I mean, I can understand the obscurity because it's over 8 years old, a series somewhat infamous for having it's fansubbing stalled by episode 17, a rather long series for it's kind that proved too much for ADV Films to handle for their grand vision for potential tv broadcast deals for the series

I never completed the first season because I intended to finish it with ADV
