Three more days of TBC version Warcraft....

Hopefully people will enjoy the changes.

I do wonder how many Horde raids on Stormwind will use the Harbor now. Or is that route well defended?

Mmm actually yeah there are a lot of guards and the path up from the harbor is kinda winding, they'll get noticed and it is a long way across the city from the harbor to the keep.

So only serious epic guild raids from ocean side in Stormwind then. Good. It will make things interesting to watch rather than the sneak attack raids though the tran-tunnel. And it will be different from the chases around the forest and the Valley of Heros.

They'll still raid Westfall like mad. But now many they'll get creative about it.

The horde on my server is pretty pathetic, there's probably more people standing afk in front of the auction house in Stormwind than the entire horde population. The extent of city raids I have seen amounts to a 70 mage getting killed by 2 guards in Duskwood and a 5 man group raiding Westfall that was wiped out by 2 people. So, pretty sure the harbor is entirely safe on that server at least, heh.

I'm looking forward to the patch, been leveling a huntard and really want the pet talents and the new profession.

I've seen a few decent raids on Stormwind in my ten months of playing. I counted I think 20 in a raid that hit the city. They didn't get past the Valley of Heros, but it was interesting at least. Seen more three to five man groups using the tram to raid the city (during Midsummer) and Ironforge.

Other than that I see a few ten man raids that hit the region around Stormwind. But the server's population is I think still 4 to 1 Alliance...and even then I've never seen an orginized Alliiance raid hit a Horde city. Mostly it is just bored Arena and BGs Horde players that seem to actively raid. Though I see a few Alliance players raid the Crossroads from time to time, and the ever present minor hits on Tauren Mill after some S3/S4 PvPer hits Southshore for an hour.

I was part of a 20 man retaliation raid that hit Tauren Mill, Brill, and the Horde's Stranglethorn base (by mistake). Didn't hit Undercity as it was getting very late.

I've been playing since December 04 (damn you Blizzard, give me those 4 years back) and have never once participated in a city raid. All the ones I've ever seen starting were either led by some moronic lowbie who would get 1-shotted by the guards or were just completely disorganized in general. I may try to find an organized group once the achievement is in however. Despite never raiding a city though, I have leveled plenty of smaller towns solo, heh. Have also helped the opposing faction raid cities by /wave spamming the guards (they will drop absolutely everything they are doing to wave back at you).

I imagine with the changes you'll find more people hanging around Stormwind again until more and more people reach Dalaran. Shattrath might become a near ghost town aside from those that are still leveling, new Death Knights, or want to fly around getting money before hitting 77.

Does the ice flying skill let you use current model epic mounts? Like say the Epic Engineering Flying Machine?

All cold weather flying does is allow to use your flying mounts in northrend. There aren't any special northrend only flying mounts you have to buy.

That's good. The materals and time spent on building that mount and skill was quite enough for me. Plus the warlock epic mount quest that had to be done for that...in a time when few people are running old world instances.

I never even bothered with that quest on my warlock, was much easier to just buy a regular mount than deal with finding those mats, completing the quests, and hoping someone will actually run a dead instance with you.

I'd planned for it from the start, so the mats were not the problem. Only finding people. I was lucky in some respects that I found a group willing to help after I was helping them out for a while in Outland. I didn't get it until after I was 70 however...so I was riding around on the slower Felsteed from 40-70. However the night I get my Dreadstead I also got my flying mount, since I'd just managed to save enough gold and parts to get both done. I think I had 70 gold left after all that.

Wow that must have really sucked doing all of Outland on a 60% speed mount, just 58 to 60 was a total nightmare on all the alts I've run through there.

Didn't really notice unless I was in a group. (The warlock is my main, so it was the first one there) Fortunately one of the people I was with was a paladin who was also working on his epic mount quest...so he had slowpoke speed as well, thus we still didn't notice much.

It was the slowpoke speed getting noticed in a group that lead to a quest through Scholomance and Dire Maul one evening.

The epic flying mount however was where I really noticed a difference.

Actually they noticed after a while of me helping them. They were 67s, 68s doing the group quests in Nagrand. One of them asked why I was always behind them so far. I mentioned the mount quest and they said, "Hey let's do that next".

I said "What?"

Three hours later and a few friends of friends 70s later, epic mount. I didn't pay them a thing. They all volunteered. The few 70s got more than enough gold selling all the old world mat materials that go for a lot on the AH. (a stack of runecloth was going for at least 4 gold at the time and I think each of us had five stacks by the end) We cleaned out most of Scholomance just because the rogue wanted to kill everything and could. They laughed at the Bosses in Dire Maul until the warlock quest encounter. They liked the ritual. It was fairly intense and fun, yet not stressful to the point of a wipe with four people. THe 68s got experiance for most of the kills and still made money at the AH. What little stuff I took out netted me about the entire 250 gold I'd spent for quest mats anyway.

Yeah, there is even ore named after Yogg-Sarron. Saronite, is supposedly his blood seeped into the minerals of Northrend, and transformed the ore into a 'living' organism. I think that's a pretty cool way of hinting that the corruption of the Old Gods affects the very world itself.

Yogg-Sarron is supposedly beneath the roots of the failed World Tree Vordrassil. The tree was destroyed because of his corruption among other things.

Another bonus thing I've liked with Yogg-Sarron is the fact that he whispers to you, al la C'thun, in a few places around Northrend. So he is around and quite very much alive.

A theory I've heard is that Yogg-Sarron is actually part of C'thun, he ruled over the Aquir (Nerubians/Silithid) until the trolls split the kingdom in half. This would lend some weight to the idea that we did not kill C'thun in AQ and that we merely banished part of him. Arthas also killed another part during the Frozen Throne campaign. So either he can grow back parts like its going out of style (which is how he came back to AQ), or he is a LOT bigger then was realised.

It would also mean that the Old God that is 'dead' in Darkshore, isn't/can't be really dead.

The Titans are very technological beings, when you go to the Halls of Stone, Halls of Lightning and other places around where Titans have been you'll find relics of very very 'advanced' magical technology that looks suspiciously like computers, holographic displays, automated construction devices, and other mechanical monitoring bits and pieces. In the Halls of Lightning leading up to the final boss there is a hall called the Observatory I think (I forget exactly) and it has a HUGE layout of what looks like a Solar system, with big holographic planets. Floating around between them are these little... orbs... that suspiciously reminded me of the Monitor from Halo (they could be satellites orbiting the planets). Anyway further in is this massive representation of Azeroth. The whole place gives you the feeling that the Titans know what has been happening on Azeroth or can find out very easily, even though they have been away.

The Titans created Gnomes and Dwarfs to be like their little worker ants and help shape the world. The dwarfs are made from animated stone, much like a golem and were called Earthen. The Gnomes were farm more robotic in nature and looked directly after the Titans machines, they have no actual name that we know, but its presumed to be Tinker. Both races (along with the Vrykul and others) were contaminated by the Old Gods over time and transformed into what the races are now according to the event in the Halls of Stone.

In short the Titans are Mechanical beings, and the Old Gods are of Bio-Mechanical beings. The Old Gods corrupted the creations of the Titans good and proper. These aberrations may be enough cause for the Titans to come back and try and wipe us out to 'reset the world' to their original vision. Though it was said that Dwarfs are OK in their books.

What? so the Titans, the creators of the universe, instigators of law and order, are just unemotional inhumane control freaks. Are the Titans evil? No wonder Sargeras left their click to form his own. And Old Gods can't be good guys either. What is the purpose of the old Gods? And where the heck do these Naaru come from?

On another note, looks like King Varian Wrynn is going to be pissed at the Horde for allowing the plague to kill one of the Alliance's greatest heroes i,e, Bolvar. He will declare all out war on the Horde after the quests of the Battle for Undercity. Any thoughts? I like this Wrynn character, his character model is bad ass and he doesn't take no shit from anybody.

Spoiler for A little more on my take on the Titans/Old Gods:

Calling the Titans control freaks might not be too far off the mark. Their goal is an ordered universe, a place for everything and everything in its place. Anything else is an aberration and a candidate for re-synthesization unless it can show promise, ie Dwarfs.

The Titans essentially see Azeroth as some sort of science project, a world in a glass jar they can watch from the outside. Both Sholazar Basin and Un'goro Crater are perfect examples of this as they are literally giant petri-dishes.

The Old Gods are chaotic beings, they can exert their influence over something, they'll twist things to their will if they want to, but their mere existence provokes change as well. The Dwarves, Gnomes and Humans are examples of this along with much of the life on Azeroth. The Old Gods presence forced creatures to evolve to break from their static existence, after all mechines don't evolve on their own, in the thousands of years they have been here Mecha-gnomes haven't changed at all, neither have the Earthen, or Golems, etc. Unless they came into contact with an Old Gods 'corruption'. Maybe the Old Gods due to their chaotic and presumably violent nature run on the belief that its survival of the fittest, for everything.

Whats is evil (or unappealing)? A static unchanging existence, or to fight for your life and existence and grow stronger in the process?

Far to deep for a mere computer game story line?

ps: The Titans didn't actually create the universe, they just go from planet to planet shaping them to their design, regardless what the previous inhabitant want.

Spoiler for Bolvar, Varian and Wrathgate and stuff:

Varian needs a good smack upside the head. Sure it is understandable to be upset about a close friend dieing, even to hate the Horde. But declaring war the way he did was fairly stupid. There is nothing to gain from it.

The blame for the Wrathgate, I'm sorry to say falls directly onto Sylvannas she failed as a leader to see and watch her subordinate and the Apothecary Society, ffs he is a DREADLORD. However the events after the Undercity can be placed at Varian's feet because of his hotheadedness. He isn't thinking like a King, he is thinking like a brawler out for a fight.

Will there be a possibility for reconciliation? Maybe, i think it depends on Varian's willingness to listen to Jaina. But it might be slow in coming. You can see it with the quests in game, the NPC's commanders in the army believe it is stupid to be fighting a 3-way war, especially with someone like the Lich King on one side. Although they are definitely playing their part at getting petty revenge at times (daily pvp quest to kill Horde for eg).

The only two factions in the game that actually seem to have their eyes on the prize are the Argent Crusade and the Knights of the Ebon Blade. They see Arthas and only Arthas, they don't care for your faction. Although Tirion does have a soft spot it seems, he hates losing men and takes each loss personally. Darion see's losses as a side effect, a cost of the war. I think they balance each other out well that way, they both have the drive for the cause, but one is somewhat cautious in his moves and the other is willing to pay the price if there is a gain to be made.

TBH, I'd follow the Highlord around if I could and bugger the Alliance. They failed Lordaeron! WE PRESS ON!
