Depending on how they portray the delusional aspects, the degree of seriousness to which I will take this series is in a quantum state.

Hopefully non-existent. Pointing out the obvious is usually an easy ticket to ruining the impact of a joke.

So, novelfags, how much tsukkomi is there? Is the chuunibyou aspect played in a sort of ironical deadpan way, or "played for laughs" just like in any standard anime comedy?

This is vital for the comedic health of the show. I'm expecting the former case to happen, based on the "serious business" atmosphere in the PVs, but one never knows...

I would say the novels don't fit into either category well. Yuuta does play the straight man most of the time, but I can't classify him in that position. Without giving anything away, I think the best thing I can do is to quote Torako him/herself in the second novel's postscript:
Quote:
I was happy to write a story that, like the previous novel, impressed the theme “chuunibyou is the best!”

I think the quantum state just settled into something I can totally get behind.

I will say it depends on the execution of the reaction but for the most part agreed. It's one of the reasons why i don't find the likes of Gintama funny where pointing out absurdity to the viewer is a huge staple in that series.

I predict a lot of butthurt comments after the first episode, about how they were misled by the advertising.

It was in the first PV but it was just plain creepy in the teaser.

Still no announcement on the casting of the male lead, eh? Interesting.

He was announced; it's Jun Fukuyama.

When did that happen? Rather disappointing, after KyoAni said they were going to go with fresh faces in the cast, that they'd recycle one of the usual suspects.

I believe it is from one of the magazines released on the 10th each month where we get leaks (like that image shown earlier today). Ishihara never said anything about the male cast; only that they wanted new talent for the female cast. Yuuta was cast prior to any of the female cast.

The newer male VAs who would fit in this role are almost universally annoying and intolerable, so I'm fine with this.

Jun Fukuyama works pretty fine as the lead, he is more than capable at being laid back like Craft Lawrence, and over-the-top hamtastic like Lelouch. Fitting the theme of this series.

Well, if they make him go hysterical like Aoi Toori (Horizon), the chuuni parts will be hilarious as hell
