I think most of the fans will give her a break and wait patiently (the "purity rage meisters" can go find a cliff). Hopefully the time will give her a chance to focus the storyline so she isn't plagued with the "rambling" and problems with integrating comedy with drama she complained of.

Word.
While the wait is liable to kill me (or drive me mad, whichever), I'm not about to complain given the words "debilitating illness." That just sounds all sorts of bad, and she should take her time and recover fully rather than kill herself trying to work when she isn't ready. Now, if chapter 36 really is the last released chapter, that's a horrible place to stop, which is why I said the wait will kill me. But still, if she's not up to working on more, then that's that. |

I started reading this manga looking for a good light-hearted slice-of-life with a touch of romance, I guess I was wrong. It did start out similar to a run-the-mill slice-of-life comedy, but, somehow, everything just changed. With Jin and Nagi's identity crisises, Hakua's past, and all the foreshadowing set up, I fail to see how this could be seen as "light-hearted". In fact, I found it depressing. From the comedic impression I had of the story, I realize that the story is actually very sad. The drama and mystery have somehow overrun the comedy...
That's not to say I dislike the series. I love in actually. In all its seriousness, it honestly is nice to watch as Nagi and Jin develop themselves as characters. I do wish for more. I certainly respect the author's wish to go on hiatus, but I really want this series to be continued someday. With all the foreshadowing presented, it will only add to my depression if the series is discontinued... |

i guess we wait a year then. i guess that is fine, as long as she will 'eventually' continue.
if she said "absolutely, no -more" i would be devastated. this is good news for season 2 then as well. looks like if the manga will finish, the chances for season 2 are greater.

Sorry to bring this topic up if it was discussed into the ground in this board(my first post/visit in this subforum), but... what's with the whole NAGI IS A WHORE thing?
I mean IRL, it's very unreasonable to assume that anyone over 18 is a virgin(though there are exceptions)... what's the big deal about Nagi? Even if it is unusual to have had sex like that, why would it be something to hold against someone? Besides, it's not like Nagi acts like a bitch(someone that would degrade others for their inexperience), so why would it be a big deal? Heck, I wouldn't believe it if she IS a virgin. I mean c'mon... goddesses live for a LONG time. Odds are they had tons of men before. The only exceptions should be their virginal status forced upon them by their goddess theme. Okay, maybe I'm not being that fair. I mean I only watched a couple episodes so far and it seems like this "impurity" thing might be here theme, but still...

Sidenote: "Impurity" has a specific Shinto meaning that has absolutely nothing to do with the ravings of misogynist fanboi trolls who don't actually care about storylines or characters... only what they can objectify and fap off to

Sorry if I sounded grouchy in that post... because I agree with your sentiments. The whole scene was from a small faction of the unpleasant corner of fandom and just utterly ridiculous. There are some 4-panel comics floating around that skewers that sort of "fan" :P quite thoroughly.

And to be fair, that whole scene was pretty trollish (and a really unfortunate place to end up having to go into hiatus in).

Well I found anime to be done much better than manga anyway, so its not the big deal if manga is canceled altogether (health is more important). It's one of those rare cases for me where adaptation surpassed the original so I am not even sad to see original go on hiatus as long as we have another chance for another season of anime.
It wold be pretty interesting if anime would abandon manga's plot altogether and go on its own route since I think it would probably turn out much batter than the manga anyway (given if the same team continues to work on it). So far they showed more class than the mangaka in combining drama and humor. |

I prefer the anime too since I really like the voice acting and the animation is good but it's ridiculous to say the anime is better at combining drama and humor when it's a near 1:1 copy of the manga. <redundant> Last edited by monir; 2009-09-28 at 17:48. |

Yes, it is not that far off from original as say Valkyrie Chronicles, but it does change a lot of things, that may seem not that grand but they create their own atmosphere, much better than it was done (or was intended to be done) in manga. <redundant> Last edited by monir; 2009-09-28 at 17:49. |

It is just about the same thing and uh atmosphere has nothing to do with sight, please use correct terms when trying to flame someone If you honestly think added a few scenes in the occasional episode to pad it out changes the dynamics so much than lmao. The biggest changes were in the two filler episodes (and one was a bonus and one was needed due to not affect the pacing too much), the Karaoke episode obviously improved since you can actually hear them and it was the shortest chapter in the manga iirc.
Maybe you want to explain why it's not a faithful adaptation not counting the 2 filler episodes instead of getting cute and thinking atmosphere has anything to do with eye vision. Vols 1-3 are very faithful and the majority of manga readers would agree, arguing otherwise is just being obtuse. On a scale of 1-10 with Valk Chronicles being a 10 Kannagi would be a 2 at most.. and I never said it was a perfect 1:1 adaption in the firstplace, nothing is. Maybe then you should check that other body part which is responsible for the perception of atmosphere then
I found the small bits much more interesting like giving more focus on Tsugumi added bits in the first episode and so on and so on, which may not have changed events from the manga in a 180 way, but worked so much better in combining humor and drama, which mangaka wanted, but failed to deliver in the same well done fashion as anime did. Which is why I believe that news about discontinuity of anime would be more sad than the same news about manga. Anime improved the manga, thus I believe that even creating a new plot to follow would not be too great challenge for this team. |
