WBoon's Experimental Art 101
I haven't made signatures for a long while, and when I did, I was still doing it casually as a novice.
Regardless, I'm going to pick up a few signature tutorials and try in on K-On! images. These are my latest work that I made in the past few days using Photoshop CS5 Extended (just bought it yesterday). They are nothing impressive, just either something I needed to fill out the empty space that's my signature or an experiment carried out following a Photoshop tutorial. Nonetheless, hope you'd enjoy them. Spoiler for K-On! Signature Sets:
Spoiler for Standard K-On! Signatures:
Spoiler for Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Signature - Mion:

lol Well, recently, yes, since it's become one of my favorite anime (and probably the only one that gives me inspiration - at the moment). x3
But who knows. I might consider making sigs of other anime in the future. It all depends on whether the episodes I watch give me a personal endearing feeling, really. I'm glad you like my work. Here is my latest one with the incorporation of c4D images and splatter brushes: Last edited by WBoon; 2010-08-26 at 14:25. |

They are nice sigs for sure, at the same time however, they are also sigs above the allowed limits here (including the one you are using atm). If you gave those away as freebies in the K-on section, you should mention that they are not animesuki safe.

A new one I just made. Sigh. The 48.8kb limit really deteriorates the signature. Well, kind of. Especially disappointing since this looks like my best work so far.
Edit: Looks like the size was smaller than I expected. Enough for me to increase the quality. :\ Edit2: Mio's hand was missing! Did some work to make it more clear now. I had thought that when Azusa came along, she's gonna replace Mio like everyone claimed. Fortunately, seems like Mio only gets to acts as her senior even more, which is quite intriguing, both's relationship. Last edited by WBoon; 2010-08-26 at 14:26. |

You don't really need to make them that small. The Ritsu sig for example, I think it was better with bigger size in pixels. I tried it quickly, and used the Save for Web on PS and got it to ~48000 bytes and can't see really any difference in the quality ..
Anyway, not bad sigs in overall but they're all missing a border... Simple 1px black border would do the job. The K-On has border but it's so thick it feels like it's part of the actual image ..

Yeah, probably, but I felt they'd look, idk, unnatural and ruin the signature with a border-line around them. Maybe it's just me. :] |

Well you could try to work with different kind of borders.. For example, the one ganbaru has on his current sig looks pretty neat and fits the signature well.
Anyway for saving signatures and avatars, always use the Save for Web & Devices feature and you won't have trouble with filesizes. Just take JPEG and adjust the quality accordingly until the size is about right.

And yet, another signature made. This time, one with a more simple design rather than using all those fancy schmancy c4Ds, liquify, and stocks.
I know, she don't look like Mio to me, either. Ah well. At least the border looks good. And I got to keep the file size under check while having the maximum size limit, too, thanks to Dist's suggestion. ^^ Oh, and you wouldn't believe how long this took me for such a simple design. The rendering of Mio was Hell. |

A Tsumugi signature? No way.
Again, the rendering is probably the longest process in the making of this sig. It's amazing how few renderings of Tsumugi there are out there. Initially wanted to make it look darker and more soft, but when I 'accidentally' added the lighting to it, I just had to keep it. Edit: Curse the degradation in quality. Edit 2: Phew. There were some minor (but very distinct) flaws in that sig. Thank God I'm able to fix them, as the degradation in quality (to make it AS-safe) highlighted those flaws. Edit 3: Was able to raise the quality by quite an amount. It's just a matter of trial and error but, it's very tedious. -_-" Edit 4: Alterations, alterations. I should learn to check my work more often. Last edited by WBoon; 2010-08-24 at 22:36. |

WBoon your signatures and avatars of K-On are simply amazing , the ones I like the most are your current ones. They are just simply gorgeous. All your works so far add up to a 9.4/10 in my books
