Because it's Paypal. Anything suspicious like donations or large funding from Kickstarters, they always close users accounts until they have an explanation from the user.
Unfortunately, the Paypal people aren't smart like how a video game developer got his account frozen due to a large amount of donations by fans for a game he was developing because they thought it was some sort of money laundering scheme. Despite giving them an explanation, somehow the Paypal people have never heard of Kickstarters and worse, they told him they would unfreeze his account until he release the game except the game hasn't be made yet since the money he needed to develop the game was frozen by Paypal. It was only until Twitter users got hold this story and how angry they were with Paypal that Paypal decide to unfreeze the developer's account.
