when I read the WN chapter about the eunuch and the courtesan, I already expect Maomao to be a beautiful one but not as beautiful as her superior princess of rokushoukan

however, in manga chapter, I think I just saw one of the prettiest girl ever in manga

That's what makes this story so good -- she's amoral, greedy, street-smart and devious while at the same time well aware of her precarious position as a menial serving powerful and dangerous people. Her "hobbies" are just a way for her to remain sane in such a hothouse environment.

I'd love this series to get an anime adaption.

Don't worry, I wasn't really being serious. While in some ways her "mad scientist" aspect is a weakness (she can easily be bribed) and it does somewhat get in the way of her relationships with others it is a significant and enjoyable part of her character.

It's very rare to see a naturally amoral female MC, particularly in a non action series.

I think this series has a reasonably good chance of becoming an anime.

As reader of WN, I can say I never seen this part of story, but LN made lot of changes and manga is adaptation of LN not WN. Either way it seems here Mamao mother didn't die due her sickness yet and Rakan was just told she did (probably on her own request, because she didn't be burden or something) and now they can finaly be together for short time she has left.

Mei Mei is probably dissapointed because she has some sort of feelings for him? It said she took some care of him in this chapter after all.

in WN, Rakan and Fen Shen never got reunited in the end (she died very early due to Syphilis and even MaoMao is hardly remembering her)

I'm glad they used LN version so that Rakan-FenShen story could be part of main plot (even got expanded into 2 chapters in manga)

not sure about Mei Mei... She is either "hopeful" for seeing Fen Shen got beautiful ending or "hopeful" to be together with Rakan.

The art style is fantastic by the way.. WN translation might be little bit confusing but manga just pictured everything beautifully
yeah.. crying a bit here..
