Oh, really nice to see you again. I hope you'll keep posting in this thread.
Kuromitsu has criticized him a lot, but I actually like Suwabe's Oberstein. Yes, he's decided to emulate the original seiyuu rather than offer his own take on the character, but I think he does it well.

"As long as we don't attempt something stupid like a reverse invasion..." - Yang Wenli, ep 6 . If only politics can be that simple
Poor Yang. It might be a running gag that he never gets what he truly wants, huh? What a low blow of Chief Sithole, Yang's kind-hearted nature really works against himself. It's really refreshing to see anti-war faction not being portrayed as retards for once. Nice speech of Jessica, but I'm as scared as I watched that she will get attacked or assassinated or something.

^ The problem with the anti-war faction is not that they are retards, it's that they ain't working hard enough. That, or they're just too few in numbers.
Looking past the spaceships and hot guys, LoGH is actually a parable of the failings of democracy and the problems of dictatorship. The story is not so much about war as the conflicting ideals of two different men, one managing to achieve his at extreme costs to himself (and even then not perfected) and the other getting crushed by the result of his ideals. It's a tragic tale no matter from which side you look at it. |

About the anti-war faction...
I wonder if they can afford to stand down their large navy even with Isenhorn. Because if they were pretty much on the ropes, were pretty much against the wall militarily, and this was their MAXIMUM effort, while the Empire doesn't seem, or we haven't heard of it much that they have had issues maintaining that large a force (hell Castorp was able to assemble thousands of ships out of his own pocket), couple years down the line there won't be anything to stop the Empire if they decide to take a stroll and Isenhorn somehow falls. Alliance would still need to maintain parity (well a bit less since they do have the DOOM fortress) in technology and numbers, so I don't know how much can they demobilise. I guess they could mothball a significant part of the navy and have plans to return those ships into service if the need arises, and instead of having all people constantly into service instead return to reserve a large chunk of their activelly serving officers and simply rotate them over the years through refreshment tours of duty...

But that doesn't change the fact that de-mobilization might not be in their interests, unless something significant changes with the Empire's stated goals and policies. * Even though it's not really Galactic, it still does have a LOT worlds

I'm not sure if the previous episodes have adequately explained it so here's the spoiler warning:
Spoiler:
Having one door to your house under your control may not be sufficient to keep the wolves out entirely, but it sure beats having to keep a massive fleet around to guard against invaders 24/7. I'm sure they could afford to de-mob part, if not the number the anti-war politician suggested. And that's why democracy sucked according to the show- voices of reason are never loud enough cos they are too boring in the face of sounds and fury. That said, Yang's best choice was never to have fought and won Isenhorn in the 1st place. Now, there's no more path for him to quit ever again. |
