It took you this long to notice it? I think, by the end of episode 5 or so, I already noticed that this series ain’t gonna hammer their named-characters so easily . In fact, now that I’ve look at it, I think it’s their aim not to kill named characters during the first cour. That said, I already enjoy this show as is (so far) without named-characters deaths. But this is a war-set mecha show, there’s bound to be some named casualties in the end, so I won’t complain about it at least until we’ve arrived near the finale of the series.

Let me use a point of comparison here. I think you've seen Valvrave.

Aina and Senator Figuro were only minor side-characters, but by having them be casualties of war, Valvrave made it clear that you couldn't just assume that every named character would be fine. Named characters actually could die in this show. So that greatly increased people's anticipation for the finale, as some people honestly thought it could become a bloodbath. It honestly doesn't matter much if the finale ended up like that or not, simply raising that as a real possibility in the viewer's mind increases the emotional investment and suspense for the viewer.

No doubt, Majestic Prince really fails at that part. But comparing it to Valvrave... No matter how Valvrave does some things right, I'd take Majestic Prince over it.



Anyway, seeing a lot of people talk about this, makes me wonder if Majestic Prince will continue at its "leisurely" and "safe" pace or if it'll pull something surprising towards its last episodes....

Well, I figured from the overall tone of the show that the likelihood of a Team Rabbits member dying was very close to 0, but I'm honestly surprised that Team Doberman and all the named antagonists are all still with us. I will give the show some props, though, for having fun with Team Doberman getting angry over (and overcoming) a death flag being thrown at them.

Anyway, we'll see how the next few episodes go.

I don't think Team Doberman will get themselves killed, maybe out of action but not killed. When I watch this show and compare it to other series that involve mechas like Gundam or Valvrave, I don't see the drama that appears in the other two. This show doesn't present a very serious tone when concerning the war with the Wulgaru.

A majority of your mecha series pillars such as Gundam, Robotech, etc. would have killed about two or three named characters at this point and hundreds of crew, civilians and soldiers. They are more serious when it comes to the war aspect and the drama and stakes of the series, almost to the point of taking it to melodrama.

However, there is a few like MJP that are leaning to the lighter side of thing in a war, which is okay for what it is. Unfortunately it usually has a smaller audience interest, but there are definitely some like it, and there are some like me think it's okay as it has it's interesting moments and good animation, but it definitely feels like it's lacking something somewhere.

DO NOT mention the name of Robotech when we’re talking about anime . It’s a bastardized version of SDF Macross blended with other series and resulted in a puke-juice of a show. Oh, and like you said, MJP has its own approach, clearly not the same with Gundam or Macross .

I have no problems with killing off the cast, but it wouldn't really make an impact.
In order to have an impact you have to actually care for the characters.
You have to be invested.

The only intriguing character is Izuru, Asagi and Jiart.
Keyword: intriguing. I'm not emotionally invested in them yet. I'm starting to feel sorry and empathize with Asagi, and I think Izuru got into more trouble than he realized when he awakened Red Five. But, I'm not yet invested.

But they're much better than the rest.

I mean. look at this

Tamaki flirting and gag jokes are plain out painful
Kei is a half assed love interest that does nothing but throw sour looks at Izuru and act jealous towards Teoria
Suruga is just.. there
Ange kinda seems interesting, but they're not going anywhere with her so far
Teoria.. she's even more boring than Kei

But at least they're going to kill Klein next Thursday. God was he annoying.

Edit: I highly suspect the drama will not come from killing off people, though.
I suspect the drama will come from clone angst.
There are already signs that they're use and scrap clones. Not much different from Wurgur foot soldiers.

Spoiler for first half:

- Klein makes for the city next to the Academy but is blocked by Izuru.
- OP rolls in.
- Izuru fights Klein, while Izuru and Tamaki engage the other fighters.
- Mecha porn ensues.

(now, as if the streamer buffering problem wasn't enough, I'm seeing a lot of artifacts/pixelation...I really drew the short end of the stick when it comes to streaming videos. DX )

- Kei orders Ataru to overload his orbital cannon so that he can deal Klein the finishing blow.
- Tamaki jettisons Rose 3's massive fuselage and pins Klein under it. She escapes using R3's core ASHMB.
- Ataru fires the cannon onto the prone form of Rose 3 (i.e. the discarded fuselage), causing a massive explosion that (this time) takes out Klein.
- Guess who's still acting unenthused because "Tamaki-chan isn't here..."?
- Wulgaru retreat.

Spoiler for second half:

- Once again, ALL of the ASHMBs are in a sore state and require repairs. Cue in pit crew comments and various reactions.
- Suzukaze doesn't sound quite pleased by the operation's outcome, despite the successful interception and rescue of the Academy students. Looks like the Rabbits went overboard this time and there is quite a lot of collateral damage on Earth...but she still offers them lollipops as reward for their success against Klein.
- Izuru truly is a master: he manages to fall asleep on his feet during Suzukaze's sermon (and she only realizes it while distributing the lollipops).
- Back in space, the Wulgaru high council is now down by one member. They even have footage of what ultimately happened to Klein.
- Jiart and Rumes have their own little private meeting where they discuss their own schemes, but they are being eavesdropped on by one of the Wulgaru high councilmen, Rada (the one with the circlets on his forehead).
- Jiart notices Rada's presence and flushes him out; now he's on the run (it appears he's been framed as a traitor/spy).
- With the royal guard on his heels, he boards his own mecha and flies away towards the dimensional/wormhole gate, with Jiart in hot pursuit.
- Jiart cuts him off...and literally cuts him in four pieces (yeah, this means two Wulgaru higher-ups died in this episode alone).
- ED rolls in.

Next ep:

Spoiler:

- Nothing much, except we might be privy to Suzukaze's hesitations/depressed thoughts once again.

Viewers will probably love this ep just for the sleek Klein vs Izuru+Asagi+Tamaki fight on earth.

After 18 episodes some "part of the cast character dies in cataclysmic battles".

This is the thing, you could say that this particular type of show does not need to go on the route of killing and murdering. To which I could agree, but what gets me enough to point it out, is that the battles are usually catastrophic in scope, ship after ship after ship destroyed, entire locations decimated, stakes as high as "we dont do this right we are screwed up". Yet it doesnt matter, none of the characters has nothing to lose, the death of others means nothing. That is the thing, all their actions are repercussion free. I am not asking for a Gundam Unicorn type of seriousness or a Macross level of grittiness. But just to know that even in all that mess they are human, that what they do matter, being good or bad.

The only thing that has me curious now is Izuru and Jiart thingy. I think all the rest that is happening is just distraction because it does not matter at all.
That and the mecha porn battles, are well made and cool, no questions there.

...Gundam unicorn seriousness... Macross grittiness.... I didn't laugh that much a while.

But aside of these (hilarious) jokes. you ask for characters to be human and stuff which is exactly what is this show do best and that was case in this episode as well. It's truth that Team Rabbits have very little to loose, but that's exactly reason why they have to fight even harder to protect that little.

PS: You also contradicting yourself when you ask for Death meaning something while you would like spam with it in "Kill them all" Tomino style. If there will be death it will bear far more significance than any of these gundamesques ones.

Aww, every episode ends too quickly. The combo stabbing with Izuru and Asagi was awesome. Man this show know how to pull great fights. Drama in the Wulgaru high council. :3

Well, named character death has finally happened, almost right on cue.

Episode 18 was definitely a great episode.

The mecha action was fantastic. And the contrast between the humans and Wulgaru continues to be compelling and well-developed.

I have a feeling King Glakie is aware of Jiart plotting a coup and is playing along with Raba as a sacrificial pawn.

In one scene it looks like the King's concubine is besides Jiart.
