Evangelion Re-Take

Quote:
"If there was one thing I hated about the original series was the ending. This doujinshi actual gives the series a proper conclusion. I even found the hentai parts fitting into the story rather well."
-Megaton

"This has such depth...the depth that the anime tried and failed to portray. Amazing read...Shinji is finally redeemable."
-GunslingerV

"I like the plot, and I agree Shinji is much better here than in original story., I feel like this one delivered the "message" better than Anno Hideaki attempted to do with the anime.

other than that the art is also wonderfull, I cant believe this was done by the fans"
-Domonkazu

"I was impressed by the story. I never thought they would try to explain the original anime ending and add so much new mind-blowing twists. Truly a worthy alternative to the original."
-TWM

"I had low expectations when i got a hold of this doujin, but i was greatfully mistaken, the storyline is amazing and more morbid than the original, I would highly recommend this to anyone."
-Dax Baxter

"I cant believe this is just a doujin. i like the shinji here better than the emo sh*T he is in the anime. its AWESOME"
-Madocchi

"I really don't know where to begin to describe how dumbfounded I felt as I read this manga. It simply is such an amazing add-on to the Evangelion series that even its 'adult' content can be called nothing short of beautiful. This story adds so much depth and richness to every character and pushing them to their limits, and even at its core lies messages that might have been lost amongst excessive theory and strive thats been centered around Evangelion. I think this manga does it's counterpart(s) great justice and I think it can even fair well, even as a stand-alone, for its enormous character development, psycological mind torture and unpredictability tops that of what I've seen in entire seasons of anime."
-llbloodll

Synopsis
After the events of the Third Impact, Shinji inexplicably finds himself back in the past before all things went awry. Given a chance to rewrite history, would he succeed in leading the world to a better future, or is the fall of humanity truly inevitable with his failure? Or is he merely drifting between dream worlds and reality once again?

We have all seen their descent into madness with the anime series and the OVA. This time, the entire cast is shown in a different light with the glimmer of hope for salvation. Witness the metamorphosis as familiar characters evolve and eventually transcend their original selves. 90° and 180° plot twists are abound yet all of them smoothly fall into place with none of the events or changes appearing absurd or unlikely. Like countless other fans of the original series, Studio Kimigabuchi have asked the question "What if... ?" but they took it to the next level with Evangelion Re-Take by providing satisfactory and plausible answers along with gorgeous artwork which is faithful to the original version.

Wow, I never heard about this. And I'm a big fan of Evangelion, how come I didn't hear about this? It looks very good, I can only find good comments about this, so this Evangelion RE-TAKE has been completely translated but RE-TAKE After has not been finished yet, right? I'm going to download it. =)

1) It's a doujinshi and as such, it's considered as non-canon. Most databases don't carry information about doujinshi either.

2) It's nsfw. This will be one of the few times which I'll say this seriously: It's not porn, it's ART.
Unfortunately, using the same line to explain yourself to your colleagues will probably just raise a few eyebrows.

According to the pages at Baka-Updates Manga, both Re-Take and Re-Take After are complete. Although I haven't encountered any other site which confirms the info, I believe it's accurate since the last chapter provides a satisfying closure for the series.

Anyway, chapter 00 is a prequel/preview and some might find that somewhat confusing since it shows scenes from 01-04. Some might prefer jumping straight to chapter 1 instead.

Ah, I have just read volume 00 and it was quite enjoyable.

Yeah, that is [unfortunately] true. It's a very good doujinshi.

Thanks for clarifying that.

Ah, that's why I didn't get some parts of the volume 00.

Now I'm going to download the rest.

Thumbs up

All of Eva is heavy, but something about this dojinshi was particularly oppressive. Incredibly well illustrated and scripted. A fascinating read and well worth the time.

Sidenote:
Has anybody here tried the OST yet? For some reason, it reminds me of the Saikano OVA OST. The two are somewhat similar in mood but Re-Take doesn't sound as "saturated", imo.

Read this today. It's really well done!
And it provides a plausible ending to the tale.
But I still have some gripes with it...

Spoiler:

These are just speculations though so I'll have to check it later (or a few days from now). Maybe I'm just a bit biased with my interpretation because I can't imagine Eva without a little bitterness mixed in.

For the futher notices - the order you should read Re-Take is:

Re-Take 1
Re-Take 2
Re-Take 3
Re-Take 0
Re-Take 4
Re-Take After

Its a really good doujin, even if you dont like A/S you should still try this doujin because it is as good as Sadamoto's manga in some aspects (at least Re-Take's Asuka is portrayed as a charcter with some depth instead of Sadamoto's blond bimbo Asuka).

Darknemo, you are right,
I love the last line Asuka said in Re-Take After.
It is very Asuka-like and very romantic in someway.

Hopefully, there are more doujins translated.

It is just very good dojinshi.
It has nothing to do with New Evangelion movies in 2007-2008.
First movie will hit Japan very soon.
Now, as far as I know, Gainex stated that it will hit Japan in Summer of 2007.
So, it is very close.
But, I worried that this new eva movie does not have any Preview or trailer going around, so I think Gainex might push it back to late 2007.

Spoiler:

Great doujin by the way. It does a fabulous job of expanding on the original story and wrapping it up satisfactorily.

I must say though that I did enjoy how the original TV series and End of Evangelion ended as well. This doujin is a nice one that hangs on to that EoE ending, but also satisfies those disappointed Eva viewers who are looking for that more "happy ending."

Only fault i fine with Re-take is that the author is Asuka fan.

Rei fans need something similar
