I hope we get a OVA or movie at least
The final 2 episode felt rushed and thrown together, some good stuff in them but overall it felt last minute like. I wish they ignored the whole student movie subplot because that would have added some more time to flesh some other more important things out |

The way I see it t leaves an opening for a sequel.
With the leaks I can see Earth's public being outraged the UN Secretary tried to keep secret the Efidolg will invade in 224 years, the treatment of the heroes who fought for Earth, and keeping secret of the alien resistance fighting the Efidolg. This lead to the expedition to reinforce whatever allies out there to keep the conflict off Earth. Going from passive "let our descendant deal with it we'd be dead anyway" to the pro-active "let end this war once and for all while we still have allies". Too bad Yukina got separated and it s good thing she didn't bring Kaya to space. He s an embarrassment to humanity. His brand of crazy comes from Dr. Hausen. While everybody obviously aged Yukina didn't due to the nanomachines. This means Tom and Shemi are also virtually immortal. Mika became a reporter Akira, became a JSDF, Carlos is in Spain, and Kaya is assigned to Antarctica it seems. (He deserves it.) Without a wormhole it means the expedition would be slow boating using STL to reach Zeru's home planet. The sequel would be ether a continuation with the old cast of protagonists in a space war or a new set 224 years later defending Earth. Tom and Shemi should still be alive to guide this generation. As for Yuroba he'd still be alive unless Dr. Hausen kills him by turning off his nanomachines. Oh yeah there is also that unfinished Yukihme clone. Wonder if it'll be kept in stasis if finished. Since Efidolg security is crap maybe she can be used. |

At the end of Ken and Yukihime's battle Zeru found her body and buried it. He didn't think Ken or his Black Relic survived. |

Overall, show was alright for me, somewhere in the middle between good and bad. Honestly, I liked the first half better. I feel like the slice of life parts are more entertaining than the invasion stuff in the second half. I just find the comedy parts of the series to be very amusing.

I thought of something. How does it make sense that Commander Lefil, his underlings, and their computer system all don't know where the Efidolg homeworld is? What was the Gezon-Reco squad going to do with all the resources they harvested from Earth? Leave it sitting around?

Efidolg forces function is similar to Berserkers from Saberhagen's Berserker series where an alien race created AIs to fight their war for them. Eventually due to a glitch the Berserkers went omnicidal. Similarly in the Foundation series robots following the Zeroth Law "Robots may not harm humans though action or inaction " implies to protect humanity they killed aliens leaving worlds to colonize. |

So I finally finished this show by marathoning the last three episodes and I really enjoyed it. It's just such a crying shame that this show went to Netflix because it deserved a lot more attention. It was a genuinely fun and engaging story with a (mostly) likeable cast. Kennosuke, Yukina and Sophie particularly stood out as fantastic characters.
I hope to God that there is a sequel that does justice. That ending was beyond heartbreaking.

Damn Netflix..lol. Only recently i was able to get the last episodes of the show. Overall, i liked it. The main thematic was interesting from the beggining and i think the following mysteries were actually nice. I hope we can see more in a future OVA or season 2. "Efidolg arc" sounds amazing! I like sci-fi and this type of stories always fascinated me. The only thing i disliked was the highschool setting. I know they did it to try to sell to the japanese audience since they seem to love everything school related but it was really a shame because a 400 hundred years old Samurai fighting aliens in our current time using mechas is way too badass to be wasted in a simple highschool drama
Kennosuke was my favorite character in every aspect. Those episodes that dealt with the culture clash between his time period and modern world were fantastic. It kinda reminded me of Suisei no Gargantia since it had a similar premise. ... and Muetta... damn, at first i was not a big fan of Yukina's design but it's amazing how a different haircut can make such a diference..lol. |

After delaying this show for over three months I finally caught up, and wow, this show was nice! I really liked how it made use out of its two cours to space out the action with nice slice-of-life and comedy to give a special flavor to it as well as develop Yukina and Kennosuke excellently.
I do have one major complaint though. Why couldn't we get an ending with Yukina and Kennosuke together? That's what frustrates me the most. So many goddamn times in anime am I treated to an absolutely adorable romantic couple only slapped with a painfully frustrating ending where they are forced apart due to circumstances and they end with this vague feeling of "we'll meet each other again hurr durr". And you know, I don't exactly mind this type of ending as long as it's justified, but I don't feel like it is the case here. There was no real reason for them to be separated, they could have just as easily written it so that Yukina successfully escaped with Kennnosuke and we could have still had the "5 years later" timeskip epilogue, only just focusing on Sophie going to meet Yukina and Kennosuke who are already fighting together. Not to mention all the hard work the supporting characters put in in this episode for Yukina to catch up with Kennosuke would have actually felt rewarding if the operation was successful. Goddammit Japan, can't we get more cute couples that actually end up together in a satisfying way? Does every single damn anime ending have to slap me with a shitty feeling of bittersweet loss even if it doesn't fit? I feel like I was teased with the prospect of a perfect happy ending only to have that taken away at the last second, and that's the big thing that's keeping me from truly considering this anime great and not just good. |
