I hate this new kid. His little gimmick was fine at first, but at this point it's just obnoxious. How can he insist on wanting to learn from Goblin Slayer, and insist he knows all this stuff, and then constantly ignore both of them just to run in like an idiot? Honestly, I don't even want a redemption/maturation story from him anymore. Just let him die and have Priestess get development from his death. It'd be better for everyone involved.

He's young and brash and full of pride, just like most young wizards. We saw how that worked out in the first chapter. The difference is that even if he won't admit it out loud, he has actively acknowledged he screwed up.
More interestingly, I like the process used here. Superheating and then flash-freezing to crack its stone body due to the exposure of magical light (I guess it counts as Daylight in D&D terms). Who knew learning about ice cream was so helpful.

Sudden change of temperature does make things more fragile. I recall that even at Wortenia Senki manga chapter 1, the mage burns the door first and then freeze it. That makes the defenses even the steel gate becomes brittle so quick.

Of course it was. Remember, GS' sister met a goblin death and he never forgave them. Wizard boy's sister was not only in a state where she needed to be mercy killed by GS but she was mocked post-death. That's the kind of thing you see from people who have never been on the front line or experienced what it means to have to see Goblins at their worst.
And he doesn't know that Priestess or Goblin Slayer were involved in that incident, while they know full well now who he was talking about.

Didn't think GS still had it in him to feel guilt to the extent that he did this chapter (63). That was great (in terms of character development) to see tbh. If he can still feel guilt and regret to that extent, then there's still hope for him to regain normalcy to a point where he could live a life that doesn't involve obsessing about goblins 24/7.
I knew that under that stoic demeanor and trademark literalness, there was still some humanity left and that he was still capable of caring for comrades and even considering people friends. I just didn't know how strongly he felt emotions anymore since becoming what he is now. This chapter helped me gauge quite a bit where he stands in terms of emotional maturity.
