Yoshimune, the author of MuvLuv, officially said so.

He said MuvLuv & MuvLuv Alternative had an offer as a TV anime series from a big animation promoter before. However,it did't happen.
There were some reasons for that. One of them was ML & MLA talk about the Emperor system and Patriotism.
Well, they are not the main theme of ML & MLA, but the sponsors avoided to take a risk to receive claims and hesitated to invest.

So, Yoshimune started to write Total Eclipse novel.
He made TE more like Gundam series. That means more mechas, actions, less political, and so on to make it easy to be invested.
The rest of the story is as you said.

For the above reasons, ML and MLA would be released as OVAs or movie series.

I hope TE will succeed commercially. I really wanna see ML & MLA animation series

Sunday. Crunchyroll delayed the first episode until midnight so they could debut it at Anime Expo, but the regular simulcast time will be 1:30 EDT.

That said, I hope this episode wasn't a big tease, and now that we've time skipped, it gets all safe.

Also, did the translators actually get it right, and did I just see a Japanese anime character say something positive about the US military?

The mechas looked good, the action was well done, but Michael Ironside > Yui.

I am confused about 1 thing right at the end: while Kyoto obviously burned, did they actually drive back the BETAs? Otherwise, why were people still around the area and alive?

EagleBlue Senior Member Join Date: May 2009	Spoiler for Episode 2: WOW, it was really bloody. Destroyer-Classes were the first they fought. First few seconds they did well until the Laser-Classes arrived. Lose a few more members then retreat until only three of them were left. From about of no where Coach arrives and holds off the BETA for a minute or so. Arrive at base, then Soldier-Classes and Tank-Classes. Not a good way to go. Yui is saved by a Blue Takemikazumichi then cut to 3 years later. My thoughts, that was definitely MuvLuv right there. Overall was a pretty good episode. Also so much despair.

TSFs from the first/second gen really don't stand a chance. They all get overwhelmed when surrounded. Lots of Despair, and blood. The last part was on foot, and it really reminds me of Aliens... all the NOM NOM NOM...

Spoiler for ep 2: The scene where the imperial army was trying to hold the line until the end was truly sad. Seeing them resist the invasion with their outdated Gekishin was moving. The part where that one Eishi was asking for help from his superior because the tank class already had clung on to his Gekishin was heartbreaking. Gave me some flashbacks from the original. ;_; Man, this episode really kept me on the edge of my seat. When Aki celebrated that she overcome the eight minutes of death, I was like, "Girl, don't celebrate just yet" and she got rammed by the Destroyer class a few seconds later. Yeah, never let your guard down. When the Type-94-1C Shiranui showed up, I couldn't keep my fanboyism under control. I thought he was an imperial royal guard, but it turns out he belongs to the imperial army instead. Making use of his diminishing life by buying several seconds to delay the advance of the destroyer class... gotta give the guy a salute. Loved it when he switched to full load out of a Gun Sweeper even though he was one arm short. Images Sorry; dynamic content not loaded. Reload? Yui did really well surviving that much crap and not breaking down until much later. Keeping herself cool and accurately shooting her own comrade in person is too much for a newly graduated Eishi. I'm even surprised she manged to pull the trigger. It's a shame that Yui missed. Ah... that blue Type-00R Takemikazuchi. Though my opinion of the pilot changed, I still have to admit, He looked so cool descending like that and disposing of the tank class like a boss. Damn, he was completely surrounded too! Spoiler for additional info about the invasion of Japan: July 1998, the BETA started their invasion. In one week, Kyuushu, Shikoku, and Chuugoku fell. The overall population for those regions is 40 million, and had 36 million casualties. 36% of the Japanese population was wiped out in one week only. Remember when the BETA finally broke through the final defense line? It was on July 27. The imperial army and the royal guards delayed the invasion for three weeks or so. That's a big accomplishment actually. They should've been wiped out sooner than that. Also, the American forces retreated and returned to their homeland. One month after Kyoto fell, it was taken back with the combined force of the Royal Guards and Imperial Army. The one who led the attack was the pilot of the blue Type-00R Takemikazuchi that appeared at the end of episode 2.
