It's just plot armor here, this guy wasn't even able to fly a plane correctly before. Now in S2 he suddenly went Gundam Meister, this role doesn't really suit him.

I had fun watching this episode but I'm a bit annoyed by how the show absolutely take people for idiots. They actually do it two times in a row:

- First by trying to make us believe Slaine could actually loose this fight....
- And then again by playing for at least the 3rd time the "aseylum is going to die" card

As if any of these had really chance of happening at that point in the show.

Back in season 1, Slaine did a ridiculous air manoeuvre that made him pass out, and still managed to keep on piloting the plane. Do keep in mind he was only (IIRC) 15 years old at the time.

There is no suddenness about it. He had 19+ months to use it. There are other complaints you could make about Slaine, but his piloting skill is not one of them.

Also, the other advantage Slaine has is that he studies his environment. Even with his piloting skill, Slaine could still lose this battle if he didn't know that he could lure the enemy into a tight space.

it was also said at the begining of season 2 that he had been training with the Tharsis since he helped saazbaum escape

Okay, what? As much as it pains me to stand up for him, we knew since episode 7 that Slaine is a damn good pilot. The only thing that has improved is his ability to think.

That said, this was a pretty good episode. I've been laughing even during the moments I probably shouldn't have, but it's been a while since I've been even a bit excited about this. It even sort of/kind of succeeds in making Lemrina bearable, something she hasn't been for me for the past few eps.
