I'm thinking in terms of the team writing the series. They wanted to feature Panda and Sau in a classic play, but they also wanted a happy ending. What they did accomplishes all three, and that's fine. I just would have done it differently.

That's Shizuka, not Panda.

episode 9:

did not expect to see a visit from Kathrin's mom. Her mom is so beautiful.

good thing she does not have a bad temper like Kathrin. Funny when she harassed Shizuka with a skirt lift (lol). And Dugong is so harppy to meet the mom. xD

this is a nice relaxing episode.

looking forward to next week.

episode 10:

imo Kathrina's phantom is the best. She's scary, and actually feels like the character.

Although there are some parts during a few of the episodes that are boring, or make me want to skip through, they always end up making me want to watch the next episode. I'm excited to see how the Phantom of the Opera plays out.

This isn't even my final form.

episode 11:

that's a heartwarming scene when Kokona first met Shizuka.

Kathrin, Yae, Panda and Sasu only derived their Phantom from Hiiragi's acting.. while Kokona did her own Phantom interpretation. So Koko was chosen for the role, she truly earned this one.

looking forward to the show next week!

episode 12:

I enjoyed the final performance.

so glad that Shizuka was able to come back.

Kathrin is a bit upset, because Koko did not get awarded Dai Star. I also feel Kokona should have got the Dai Star award instead.

In the end Shizuka couldn't be on stage. What a shitty ending.

I think the implication is that it was a shared performance from Kokona and Shizuka for the entire sequence after she came back from the dreamscape. Notice how her eyes stayed purple for the whole time.

"This is the first time in my life that I've ever been glad that I was born." Got so teary at this part.

A fantastic finale to a wonderful show that feels very under-watched for how good it is. Even though it'll be confusing, you could almost recommend someone just watch this last episode cold and if interested then go back to start again from the 1st episode.

Hope this also manages to be a springboard of sorts for Sally who started a little shakily in the first two episodes but improved so rapidly that she was faultless after that and culminating in THAT performance in episode 10.

Hmmm... It's been one of the more enjoyable shows of the season, but really it left me wishing there could be more seasons of Kageki Shoujo!! or a new production of Glass Mask.

I said before that I was really bothered by the way they changed the ending of Romeo and Juliet. It felt like the creative team behind the series chose that play just because they wanted something they thought the audience was sure to recognize, but it didn't give them a happy ending so they changed it. But there are plenty of Shakespeare plays out there with happy endings that they could have used - A Midsummer Night's Dream or As You Like It or even Pericles, Prince of Tyre, for example. It's like they didn't want to risk the audience not knowing the play, so they just grabbed the one at the top of the list without caring whether it was the right fit.

And I'm sorry, but a bunch of high school girls doing Phantom of the Opera sounds like something you'd find in an American small town out in the boonies. Don't get me wrong, the vocal cast did a great job with the roles they were given, but I couldn't suspend my disbelief over what they were doing.

Glass Mask also featured characters with ridiculously OP acting abilities, but they were playing roles that made sense in plays that fit who they were - Little Women and The Miracle Worker and The Prince and the Pauper (and also A Midsummer Night's Dream). And when she didn't have existing plays that fit the story, Suzue Miuchi invented her own plays instead. I think that worked much better.

The characters and the actresses playing them were good, but I wish they'd been given a better story to work with. That's just how I felt about it.

That's just Kokona with Shizuka inside. If you wanted to see Shizuka on stage (like I did) this is pretty fucking disappointing.
