Finished it in a bit under 17 hours. I enjoyed it a lot, but not really as much as I thought I would, I was plain bored during some chapters. There were some really awesome parts though, my favorite being the fight against Krauser.
Gameplay was great, graphics were a bit disappointing (a step down compared to RE3R IMO), the story was... well, Resident Evil tier. I really loved the new Ashley, she looks a hundred times cuter and she's kept the ballistics (it becomes much more apparent when she loses the jacket) which actually still bounce, it's just not as exaggerated as before. I had a bit of fun with the character model. She was a lot more brave as well, I can't even remember her whining once. Still completely useless in battle though. Like, give her a gun so she can defend herself a bit. If they release the Ada DLC for free I'll definitely play it, otherwise I'll wait for a discount.

I've been trying to think about why I didn't enjoy the game as much as I thought and I found two reasons: 1. This is the very first remake of a game I've already played that I bought full price. I always buy them heavily discounted (20€ for both RE2R and RE3R) so my expectations usually aren't too high. 2. The Last of Us happened since then. It completely removed the annoying aspect of escort missions. I know protecting Ashley is a big part of RE4, but they completely removed QTEs which were also a big part of it because it was a dated mechanics. Perhaps they should have done the same here. Don't get me wrong, it's a really great game. It just didn't really click with me the way the original did.

Personally one thing I didn't not like with the RE4R release, as a matter of fact all the RE Remkes, is the drip-feeding of bonus games, that should have been part of the retail release.
I remember when I played RE4 back on the cube. What did I do after finishing the main story?- I played ada's bonus game and of course mercenaries. What did I do when finishing RE4R?- played another game until mercenaries dlc that was released this morning...but only 4 characters and 3 stages!?! |

Looks like cut content from the main game will be in this. It looks really good, love that you can use Ada's grapple in battle. It's 10 bucks so I think I'll get it, especially since I never played the original (only ever played the Gamecube version of RE4)

Finished Separate Ways in around 5 hours. This DLC did a really great job complementing the main story. I even had more fun than in the main game, the pace was pretty on point. It's also rather important story wise, since it explains how Resident Evil 5 will happen despite the ending of RE4R being changed.
If you have 10 bucks to spare and like RE4R, I highly recommend it. I feel like we need another DLC now to tell us Spoiler for Separate Ways:
I hadn't played the Mercernaries mode before but I wanted to see how the newly added Wesker plays. He did not disappoint, he is a fucking BEAST. Far more so than in RE5's Mercenaries, he is actually lore accurate here (though not as durable as he should be obviously).
