Protagonist that hides his real strength
Are there anime where the protagonist hides his true abilities and maybe kind of works from the shadows without his friends noticing? No superhero stuff, though.
There is some of that in Overlord, when the protagonist pretends to be an adventurer, but it's only a small part of that anime.

Death March fits. The guy accidentally levels up to around 360 within minutes of coming into a new world, a world where elite warriors are level 50. He consistently tries to conceal just how powerful he is, occasionally even using disguises or other techniques to fight without being noticed or recognized.
There's also a bit of that in The Irregular at Magic High School I believe. And if you're ok with something more comical and don't mind light novels you could try Didn't I Say to Make My Abilities Average in the Next Life!?. A girl reincarnated into a fantasy world had asked God to make her abilities average so she wouldn't be isolated like she used to be, but she discovers that God's "average" is "halfway between minimum and maximum". She thus spends her days trying to be "normal" when she's really half as strong as the greatest dragon. |

There's the Japanese light novel series Saijaku Muhai no Bahamut (Bahamut of the Weakest Undefeated). The MC here doesn't do stuff from the shadows where his friends don't know, but he does hide his real strength. He's actually the strongest in his country, but in the kingdom's tournament he made a name for himself as the one who just won't lose--he ties but doesn't lose. So he's given the nickname "Weakest Undefeated". You find out the truth by the end of the first Volume, though, IIRC.
It's a harem series, and the MC "seems" dense. But there's a good reason for the supposed denseness which is explained later so just hang in there until then if you read this series. There are 19 Volumes currently out and fan-translated. The 20th Volume is final one. It's basically going to be an Epilogue Volume according to the Volume 19 Afterword.
