Ataru never got the eternal gratitude he deserved for saving the Earth. And I forgot how brutal his mother was, always saying she wishes he'd never been born.

I like that they didn't attempt to modernize it, as evidenced by Ataru and Shinobu using rotary phones. The second story could have worked just fine with cellphones, so it's a nice touch to keep the same era.

Lum looked as beautiful as ever. Shame they censored her boobs, but that was expected.

I was more into ranma 1/2 as a kid but is good to see this back, I had fun and that was what I wanted.

Yeah I'm not surprise they didn't show the nipples but at least there wasn't the white light that takes all the screen.

I'm glad to see this getting a remake; I've tried to go back to the '80s series but 200 episodes is a bit daunting.

With this remake of Urusei, I wonder if we'll ever get a remake of Ranma 1/2 next time.

And if they did, do you think Ranma should be kept as is in its 90s period or updated?

Never watched the OG, but was a big fan of Ranma and Inuyasha.

I don't think Lum can get in the waifu of the year race, but her Idol dance is mesmerizing. Studio really went all out for this one.

I just really like how vibrant the anime is and the lines are very crisp.

The constant yelling from the entire cast is a bit much, but not intolerable to me.

I read one volume of the manga long time ago, but I thought it was a typical slapstick comedy. The story telling of Ranma feels like an upgrade of this work.

The dance is typical parapara. The old anime OP uses disco style.

It was kind of surreal for me hearing Hiroshi Kamiya voicing a lecherous teen in an 80's anime remake in this day and age...and also that his love interests are Sumire Uesaka and Maaya Uchida. Then again he was already paired with Maaya in Noragami

.

Also him yelling about wanting Shinobu was doubly amusing as a Monogatari fan

My issue with the series is that I heard a lot of people complaining that as protagonist Ataru is way worse than Makoto from School Days or Tooya from White Album.

He's a letch but he seems like a likeable enough letch...and the world treats him like @#$% so

IMO Ataru is mid, Makoto is a horndog clown & Tooya is surprisingly relatable, especially if you're being approached by such sexy agent/manager

Frontier Senior Member Join Date: Aug 2013	Spoiler: An anime classic is getting a top-tier remake courtesy of David Productions! Welcome back to the world of Rumiko Takahashi's Urusei Yatsura ! Starting right off the bat with a "Jesus." Yeah, okay . We get our hapless, lecherous, protagonist Ataru, inexplicably voiced by Hiroshi Kamiya, as he tries to sway his love interest Shinobu into giving him the time of day. Have I mentioned Shinobu is voiced by Maaya Uchida? This show did not screw around with their VA budget . Of course Ataru can't pry his eyes away from other women, so he can never win with Shinobu, and the rest of his life isn't that much better...he gets stuck with a priest who is continually trying to "save" him that ends up coming closer to killing him, his own parents are incredibly frustrated by him to the point where his mother wishes she'd never given birth to him, and all his life he seems destined for bad luck. Perfect choice to save the world, huh ? The Opening is a lot of fun with a really engrossing and dynamic theme and plenty of eye-catching visuals, from classic Lum art to transitioning from Ataru trying get lucky with every woman alive to having his entire life dominated by Lum. Bonus points for the Lum idol performance that the entire supporting cast gets to watch . I just love how much fun Rikiya Koyama seems to be having as Lum's dad. It's like he's a more boisterous and loud version of Kogorou Mouri . And there she is...the electro shock alien girlfriend who started it all, Lum! A gorgeous and confident beauty just strutting her amazing looks in nothing but a leopard bikini, and Sumire Uesaka is really trying to channel Fumi Hirano for the new version of Lum, and captures' Lum's sense of fun, sensuality, and energy amazingly! And that "Dahling" is perfect . Nothing motivates a man quite like getting a promise of marriage from his girl...even if that ended up screwing him over in the end . You can see Lum started falling for Ataru when she respected how he wouldn't give up and started to make their competition fun again, so that she took his "marriage" mantra to mean he was proposing to her makes enough sense to where she's glomping on him and making him hers. And thus the series truly begins. And bonus points for Ataru winning by forcing Lum to go topless, fitting for a pervert like him . But Lum is a very possessive and strict wife...no looking at other women, lest you get shocked silly! And thus beings a three-way phone tag and love triangle between Ataru, Shinobu, and Lum that ends up creating a blackhole and tons of destruction as Lum tries to keep Ataru and Shinobu apart...which actually succeeds when Lum pulls a fast one and tricks Shinobu. Lum doesn't mess around . I appreciate that they got the OG Ataru, Toshio Furukawa, to voice Ataru's dad. And I doubly empathize with the man for trying to be the most reasonable and coolheaded member of his family, to no avail. Although he still expects his son to die like everybody else does . Poor Ataru...all the damage Lum caused gets blamed on him, Shinobu wants nothing to do with him, and she's still shocking him silly . The ED is pretty nice and soothing, with plenty of Lum visuals and Lum with Ataru. It's really rather sweet . __________________
