Killing off a fav. character is very hard, Whisper. You can try but you always try to leave some little bit of hope that he will be alive at the end. And even when you think they are dead they end up being alive (look at Sherlock Homes). I pretty much doubt Sasuke will be dead in the end just because this sort of characters of this sort of anime don't usually end up dead.

You can say Naruto is going to be different you know, but hey, chances are they are all pretty much the same.

I can be totally wrong, of course, but there's a good chance I am not.

Yea, he already smiled. Long before ep 71 even. A smirk is still considered a smile and he's done that back in the Country of Wave waaay back when. I do alot of smirking myself so I know.

Anyways...yeah. I have seen Sasuke smile, although his smiles were usually tinged with some sort of smirk.

But that might just be Sasuke's way of smiling. ^_~

I think if you want to see his genuine happy smile, then it's going to take a lot after all that he's been through blah blah.
