I was surprised to find that chapter 11 of the tankobon included a backstory of Nanami Mami that wasn't published in Shonen Magazine.

With his secret revealed in front of his very eyes, poor Kuri is so devastated that he runs away. Ruka-chan goes to Kazuya's apartment and finds that Mizuhara is actually his neighbor. Ruka-chan declares to the two of them, "I promise to keep silent about you two's relationship and Mizuhara's occupation... as long as Kazuya goes out with me."

Ruka-chan tells Mizuhara that she is not just messing around, after all, Kazuya has even touched her chest. I loled. They are being too noisy outside, so they retreat into Kazuya's room to talk. Ruka-chan is shocked when she realizes that Mizuhara had been in Kazuya's apartment before, since it is against company policy to go into a customer's home. Mizuhara asks Ruka-chan to step outside for five minutes, so that she and Kazuya can talk in private. Mizuhara asks Kazuya if he likes Ruka-chan. He said that after considering Kuri's feelings, he would definitely never go out with Ruka-chan. He tells her he has a plan. This is easily my favorite chapter so far. The dialogues are so good.

Ruka-chan catches him. Kazuya runs away, but Ruka-chan grabs onto him. Kazuya kneels down to beg her to forgive him. Ruka-chan breaks into tears because Kazuya is going that far to not go out with her, even if it is for a trial-run. Seeing Ruka-chan in tears, Mizuhara walks over to Kazuya and asks him to go out with Ruka-chan. For a trial-run. Kazuya looks at her and is, like, "Haa???" Caption on the last page of the chapter: "Thus, ... on October... 31st... 2017... at 17:17... he (Kazuya)... had obtained a girlfriend." I loled. Oh my god. This series is so good.

Ever since Ruka-chan was little, she has had a heart condition where her heart beats much slower than an average person. Whereas an average human heart beats at 70-80bpm (beats per minute), her heart only beats at around 60bpm. Even when she does intense stuff like ride a roller coaster, her heart doesn't beat rapidly at all. Not being normal made her feel like a robot. She tries desperately to find a way to make her heart beat faster. She overhears that when people are in love, their hearts beat very fast. She comes across the Rental Girlfriend website and tries to date various people, but none of them made her heart beat faster. When she saw how serious Kazuya was with his rental girlfriend (Mizuhara) in chapter 23, it deeply moved her. She checks her phone to find a 79bpm. Seeing this overwhelmed her with so much emotions that she bursts into tears. She is not a robot. Her heart can beat like a normal person. I thought my choice was set on Mizuhara, but the mangaka somehow made me like Ruka-chan just as much!! I can't believe such a late-arriving character, who was only introduced 8 chapters ago, can be so lovable. My mind is blown. Last edited by amasposu; 2018-02-04 at 05:53.
