Assume from the OP you want "hard" post-apocalyptic series, not "soft" ones, yes?

Okay then ... do you have a list to an account from A-Pl or MAL where it shows the series you have already seen? If you do, it might make it easier for those suggesting series to give you new ones that way.

I highly recommend Now and Then, Here and There which is pretty damn brutal.

There's also Sunday Without God which isn't as dark but very magical.

There was a very wide consensus that the plot was extremely haphazard but it made up for it with an incredible magical atmosphere and emotional involvement. It has its flaws but I don't recall anyone saying they disliked it overall.

Yeah ... that was many people's reactions, and for me the end was weaker than the start too. The anime is sorta a series of mini arcs, about 3 eps each, but there is no real sense of closure. (The source novels are still being released, I think?)

That being said I thought the first mini arc was really, really good, and on the whole thought the series was pretty good.

But Now and Then, Here and There is indeed dark and brutal. It is one of the few series where I really hated the "bad guy", though that is a personal thing more than anything else, perhaps.

I think this one may fit the bill for what you are looking for, though.

Arpeggio of Blue Steel: Ars Nova might fit for what you're looking for, but I am not quite sure would.

Jinrui wa Suitai Shimashita ("Humanity Has Declined") would certainly fit that, but it's more of a dark, deep n a bit symbolical thru social commentary/satire and often dark or black humor than an action or such, so may not be what you want, or you might enjoy it.

Another vote for Ergo Proxy.

I dropped Sunday without God after 3 or 4 episodes despite its beautiful graphics when they required some major suspension of disbelief like (mild spoiler) this. Maybe I'll give it another shot.

Space Battleship Yamato comes to mind, either the old 1970s, or the remake Space Battleship Yamato 2199.

Neon Genesis Evangelion is an obvious one.

Chrome Shelled Regios is another.
