Nice! I don't know why but I enjoyed the first season a lot (though it may have had something to do with a guy serenading his cat ). This wasn't something I thought would get another season, so this is a pleasant surprise.

Nice singing from Nobunaga Shimazaki, but Kao Kai's song by Toshiyuki Morikawa, Takehito Koyasu, Soichiro Hoshi and Ryotaro Okiayu is definitely the best part of the episode. Glad to see veteran voice actors showing their singing skills. Maybe we can have season 3 with Juurouta Kosugi, Ryo Horikawa, Rikiya Koyama and Koichi Yamadera? And then push things even further in season 4 by throwing Kazuhiko Inoue and Hideyuki Tanaka in the mix.

And so Hoshitani has a new potential waifu harem member friend on the horizon. Tune in for this season to find out how he wins Ageha's heart! I do hope he won't neglect the others, though, especially Nayuki.
Awww, it's so good to have this show back. It's just so... cute. And YES to the dance scenes! Ageha's, especially, was definitely a step up from S1. UtaPri may have decided to not do butt-shaking anymore, but StarMyu is here to fill the void! As for the songs, Ageha's song was good but it cracked me up because I'm coming from ClassicaLoid and oh, Sousuke, if you only knew. Also again I can't help but find it impressive how good Shimazaki was at sounding convincingly terrible, people who can sing decently tend to be bad at pretending to be bad singers. Although in Sousuke's case the song was pretty terrible, too. The Ancients' (???! who thought this name was a good idea? especially in theater/performing arts?? ) number was also good, although I was a bit disappointed that it was focusing on Koyasu and Morikawa instead of giving all four equal time. Oh well, there's still time. Also, Haruto is such a Tokiya ripoff that I always keep expecting Miyano Mamoru when he opens his mouth... and then UtaPri comes along and I keep expecting Koyasu when Tokiya opens his mouth. The only thing I'm slightly disappointed about is that Ageha & Co. are on Team Yuzuriha which means I'll have to endure Yuzuriha's "uh, this is probably how foreigners talk? maybe?" shtick. Whyyyyyy. |

Tavian! The real reason I'm watching this. I confess, I watched those two seconds multiple times.
Well, that was a fun start. Somehow, I forgot that the characters in this anime randomly break out into song, so the first number still cracked me up like the first season's did, as well as the scene right after that where everyone in the classroom stared at the group in silence. Ageha's song reminded me of something from Sound Horizon's story albums for some reason. Maybe it was the lyrics or the sound of it. But Ageha himself, oh boy, I thought he was going to be the emo one (or Hoshitani's long lost twin brother ), but it looks like we have a creeper in the house instead. So far, I like both the insert songs we got this episode better than last season's songs. They seemed to fit the characters' voices better. (Not to say that all of the songs last season were bad. Some of them just had... much to be desired.) Such a shame that not a lot of people will watch this one. So much better than UtaPri... (in my opinion) Quote:
Spoiler for messiah:
Edit: Btw, they mentioned everyone was there, but did anyone notice dog-boy from Team Hiragi was missing? Mistake? Last edited by BPD Renegade; 2017-04-04 at 00:28. |

Ep 2:
Ageha may think he's perfect, but judging from everyone's reactions, being a perfect copy isn't going to fly as well as he thinks. The Ancients in particular didn't look too pleased to see Haruto's routine. The fact that we saw a different version of the Kao Council song last episode (which pwned the one from last season, by the way) probably means they'll be looking for the uniqueness factor in the performances. It's too bad that instead of choosing whoever is best for the role, they're doing another team competition. Wouldn't it be nicer if more than one council member could have his student act with him? Meanwhile, we get to see more of what makes this show so charming. The question of where dog-boy was last episode is answered. Inumine continues to be adorkable, bursting into song with the rest of his team. Unfortunately, he's facing a tough crowd. Futaba is quickly becoming my favorite of the new characters this season. One of the charms of this show is that it knows how to make happy-go-lucky characters without them being annoying. Also, don't forget to watch the after-credits scene! Something is stirring... |

Ep 6: Hoshitani finally figured it out. Effin' hell -- for a minute there I thought he was going to conveniently have a memory lapse, and this would be dragged out until the end of the season. It only took him a year and a half...
Now that Haruto has joined our after credits snacks-and-alcohol crew, things will finally start moving along. I forget, did every episode have after credit scenes last season as well? Also, more importantly, is anyone still watching this? |

I'm very much watching! This show is just so cute and charming in its own little way. Although I'm not all that thrilled with the way the cast suddenly expanded, I'm having trouble keeping up with who is who from the new guys. There's the four "ancients" (but seriously, ancients? at least they're more fun than the senpai last season), okay, Ageha and his megane sidekick, okay, Yuuzai Guy who has the rivalry(?) thing with Shuu, okay, and... yeah? Who is everyone else again? Not that it matters a lot, I guess...
I hope Ageha's sidekick will eventually get his own special episode, I kind of like him, despite his very limited screentime so far. |

Hoshitani was hilarious this week. I was laughing in every scene he was in.

But I kind of like how the big cast is being dealt with. Other than the intro episodes last season, none of the characters in this series have their own character-centric episodes. Choosing to spread out the character subplots and touch upon them on and off makes it a lot more interesting, IMO. It makes for more natural interactions, since the characters aren't confined to just one plot point within their own group that gets resolved for an episode. Instead, we see them interacting with different people and building their relationships over the course of several episodes. I much prefer this over the standard one-and-done formula we usually see for this type of series. |

Wow, this was fast. I thought they'd save Ageha for the last, and make Hoshitani work his way through the others first... But nope, Hoshitani got the grand prize for his harem right in episode 8! What's left, a battle of waifus? (Nayuki, I'm rooting for you but you've got really tough competition! First name basis right away?! Ageha, you cheater!)
By the way, I'm really loving the "ancients'" little snack-and-drinks scene in each episode. I really want to join in and eat all that good stuff... If there was one sore spot in this episode it's the sore spot in the entire second season, that is, Rion. That "accent" is just so terrible and ruins everything that comes out of his mouth. :/ Even Cecil's version of "foreigner speaks Japanese, lol" is better than this! (And it's the same seiyuu, too.) |

NHK World did an episode on Starmyu:
The guy MC is cringey af, but the commentary from the director and key animator about the animation and character design around the halfway point was pretty interesting. The focus on hand-drawing the series comes up around the 17:00 mark. Too bad it looks like Starmyu's budget died early on, so there hasn't been much of that dancing lately. As for the anime itself, I almost spit out my food when Ageha called Hoshitani "Yuuta" last week. Slow down there boy, you're at least fourth in line for Hoshitani right now. Man, that guy came on to him fast. And the snack scene came before the credits this episode. Blasphemy. |
