That was pretty good. They managed to deal with that problem for the ghost. Certainly can understand the idea of treasuring friends so much you'd never want to forget them. But no point if you make yourself eternally miserable in the process. Can't even enjoy those memories in that state.
Of course yet again gets a win that she's probably not feeling great about. Her unicorn summon was really quite nice and might have won it for her regardless. But with Akko being out of the running it probably doesn't really feel like a win. At the very least Akko helped shake things up. Diana also had a great reception because she could do something so unbelievably well. Could you imagine the waste if she was given the traditional dance segment....Really only Akko and Diana got any serious reaction and in ways that fit them. Diana doing things so well and by the rules, and Akko shaking things up. And yeah that little bit at the end there is worth noting. Looks basically the same as what Chariot was dealing with in the first episode. Might answer some questions about why she fell back. If she was just trying to have fun and make people enjoy themselves then someone launching attacks would be terrifying for her. Putting people in danger through her shows is the last thing she'd want.

also apparently, ALL of Akko's transformations are references to 1970s childrens anime. Japanese Twitter user Onigawara-Gonzo links the Mouse, Hippo, Birds, and Elephant to old children's animes: https://twitter.com/Onigawaragonz77/...27243271143424 Although I still think the Elephant is more a reference to Dumbo Last edited by ScrewySquirrel; 2017-04-03 at 15:31. |

Just a note: when Diana's group did their bit, it was pretty much just Diana. When Akko's group did it, they all pitched in - not equally, but it was a real team effort. Anyone get the sense that Diana's efforts to restore magic are for personal/selfish reasons (like her own pride)...? |

It's clear she styled her summoning after Chariot. Too bad she missed the most important thing that makes Chariot Chariot. Her act was technically spectacular but it had no heart. Just look at her face when she's summoning that unicorn. She sure is having a lot of fun. And not just that, but this was supposed to be a team assignment, but her roommates disappeared from the stage right before the actual summoning started. It was basically a solo act. Talk about team work. Akko stole the show, had better team work, and managed to be like Chariot in the aspect the matters: she made everyone laugh and have a good time, and that's what Chariot was all about.

So, the "monster" of sacrifice part is actually a cursed princess who turn into a monster? Then, Akko at least save her soul.

BTW, the flying elephant of Akko is a reference of the old cartoon Dumbo the flying elephant. Last edited by Panzercracker; 2017-04-03 at 20:22. |

It reminds me again of LWA being an allegory for Animation. Akko is a young artist who's technique is sloppy and barely works, but is very creative. Diana is technical and perfectionist, but lacks imagination. |

The rivalry between Diana and Akko certainly changed this episode, especially how Diana is looking and interacting with Akko now. Her comments to/about Akko have become much more offensive than in the early episodes. I feel that something dark is creeping into Diana's heart.
This episode was really great to watch. Akko is slowly, very slowly, but surely getting there. There's something about the headmistress that intrigues me: maybe she knows that Akko has greater potential than what appears on the surface.

It was pretty striking how judgemental she was. Note how she was super convinced Akko had run away and wasn't gonna show up. Even after Lotte told her she was full of shit, she still didn't believe Akko was coming. When Akko actually showed up on stage, Diana was really surprised.
I think it highlights that Diana has always been running on preconceptions and assumptions when it comes to Akko. She didn't really know anything about her.

That divination is going to end up being quite important by the end of the series, I imagine.

Episode 13:
Wow... Akko's performance with her friends was incredibly entertaining. She always knows how to put on a show regardless of her magical talent. Akko is definitely on the right path on making impressions. I mean, even some of the other judges thought the show was entertaining despite Akko technically "breaking the rules". The ending was interesting too, curious to see how the identity of that individual will be in the future.

I think the bigger issue with Diana is that Akko has the Shiny Rod. Now she's realizing not only is that Rod pretty special from a fan point of view (which I'd presume she is a closet fan) but also from a save magic point of view. That thing is the key to what she's trying to get to and it chose Akko instead of her.
Add in how Akko's actions look from her point of view, it's probably frustrating. She doesn't even get a clean 'win' in this one because Akko's group was disqualified. She could have still won with that awesome summon (again with the unicorn), but she can't be sure now.
