I think the actual problem lies more with knowledge, accessibility of the game, and generally annoying gameplay aspects due to it being 80% RNG.

I still remember how much I raged during the Katori-event as the only reason I couldn't get Katori back then was that I was missing AP shells, which had simply never dropped for me.

The dumbest aspect for me is how well some ships get along with the US girls, while not getting along with certain other IJN ships at all. And I'm not referring to Yamato and Iowa here. Yamato getting along with US ships is way easier to see than other mixtures.
