Brain fart! That girl is instead Fujiwara Kei, a rather... boyish idol of SHOOTiNG ST@R who's passion is bikes and is the ambassador for Kawasaki STR@TOBiKES, a line of transformable stratocycle spaceframes.
Spoiler for Profile because I also realize I never published her:
You'd also notice I call Infinite Stratos "spaceframes" a lot. It's mostly because IS looks clunky in text: "The IS is from the... ISIS?!" and that it is longer to write. "Spaceframe" / Supesu-fureimu also rolls off the tongue better so I just kept using it.

Oh, and funny that this pic popped up while I was doing a search on old sci-fi books: "Black Amazon of Mars"...sounds like an IS (Chifuyu) crossover with Aldnoah Zero.

Someone just replied on my review and it seems like the writer himself did not appreciate my critique. All those points and examples I made are gone wasted.
Did somebody say boyish idol!? I already have them on set, I`m putting some adjustments. |

Well it can. I mean, she had herself and Tatenashi to sortie in order to intercept the Seals team and the IS and what does she do? She sends the IS pilot against the Seals team and herself against the IS.

@meister: I'm throwing this idea your way. What if, as a side-effect of upgrading his IS (or just Tabane doing it for Shits and giggles), Ichika gets turned into...

Although I am not aware of this event... probably it is long after I've lost interest in the canon progression. Quote:

... Where was she again for a year...? She probably has the German Armed Forces Badge for Military Proficiency even though she's a civilian. I think she knows enough about them to be fairly competent, but it's not what she likes so there's also that.

I think that will be suffice for what I'm thinking. Also, if need be, I can have her unleash her inner super-badass. Because not much is more badass than dual-weilding desert eagles.

I consider Chifuyu a jack (or is it jane?) Of all trades. For example, she has no qualms with using a rifle, but if given the choice of weapons, she defaults to the blade, even though she is about as good with the gun.

Agreed.
Thinking about her going against IS over SEALs, it is probably because she is better against an IS where as seals require firepower to overcome. She is after all the 2nd most knowledgeable person about those things.

I was actually just joking when I made that comparison... about her going up against an IS, leaving Tatenashi to deal with the SEALS. Tatenashi has an IS to protect her from bullets (that one guy shot through a plothole to nail her, I'm sure of it) - Chifuyu did not have an IS with Absolute Defense. Yet, Chifuyu knows not only the IS's capabilities, but also the mindsets of the pilots in them. So her going after IS pilots is tactically better.
And if Chifuyu is an 8 out of 10 in using a gun, she's about a 12 with using a blade.

Of course, Dan being DAN... And I would have to agree that Chifuyu could probably use any other weapon available if she had to...but considering how good she is with swords, there's really little reason to. Also: DAMN I wish I thought up this line:

Long answer: Depends on which country's special forces you're talking about. US, UK, Russia and China usually recruit Special Forces from their regular troops, which means they already have anywhere from 3-10 years of regular military experience. So we're looking at late 20's to mid-30s. The UK SAS in particular will prefer older and more experienced soldiers (less likely to be gung-ho and more likely to be smart about their missions) so they tend to be mid-30's to early 40's. On the other hand there are countries that recruit straight in, or else their "special Forces" are deliberate conscripts. Soviet-era Russia used to have conscript Spetsnaz who were early 20's, and I think some other nations like North Korea follow this vein. This isn't even considering countries that call their troops 'Special Forces" but don't really give them much more training. Saddam-era Iraq was one example, The Republican Guard (Which was an armored tank batallion claiming to be a special 'elite' unit) was better trained than normal Iraqi army troops---which is: not by much. Training also depends. A US Navy SEAL usually has the following setup (taken from Wikipedia): Navy SEAL training pipeline:
By comparison, the UK SAS selection and training setup time is shorter--but arguably more intense (don't let the terms fool you. The selection period has actually KILLED applicants on more than one occassion--and on one occassion killed an EXPERIENCED SAS member who was trying to show off to the young guys):
One last thing: Most people assume that Special Forces are macho Schwarznegger/Stallone types, but this isn't always the case. Different Special Forces have different requirements: Navy Seals and other combat divers (KSK, COMSUBIN) usually have a bodybuilder physique because they spend a lot of time carrying heavy loads and climbing onto boats and ships (eg lots of upper body strength). A German GSG-9 or French GIGN member (specialist counterterror) is more likely to have a slimmer athletic frame as they have to do more running, door-kicking, but usually don't carry as much gear into combat as SEALs do. The main key important thing with any Special Forces unit is willpower. It's not the guy with the hollywood superhero body and physique that becomes a Special Forces member (they're often the ones that drop out first), it's the guy who can take the punishment and the pressure and not crack. The super-athletic physique can be built. But willpower depends on the person himself. He has to have sufficient willpower to achieve what most ordinary people think is impossible--they have to, it's the nature of the job.
