Well, this episode was... a tad too random for my liking.
In fact, I would say this episode should have been scheduled in season 1: that actually would "flesh out" Kumin a bit more, instead of being irrelevant in the drama part of S1. Whereas Shinka/Sanae episode wasn't too intrusive for the plot progression of S2, this one arguably didn't build that much if it wasn't for Satone's spontaneous intrusion. I'm really wondering what's up with the Vanishment this World rendition: telepathically fighting each other in their sleep? Can't be

Following ep. 4 pattern, Kumin centric episode is expected, and by expectation I mean no expectation since she doesn't contribute much to the romance side of the plot. She's neither a chu2byo nor a former patient. At least, I don't think the casts acknowledge her as one. I was hoping that her relationship with Ishiki could improved but no big deal, unless Kyoani decides to have an Ishiki episode next. I highly doubt that.
Just one thing, Rikka's jealousy was adorable again in this episode. Sophia is very bold here, but doesn't seem like she's making any direct moves on Yuuta. However, if I don't know any better from reading the novel and directer's comments, I would've suspect her for unconsciously trying to get Yuuta's attention toward her and away from Rikka. If Kyoani isn't careful about how they handle her character people may start suspecting a love triangle development in the making. Not something I would like to see. I wonder when is Kyoani going to play the stalker card. Next episode is a good guess, but it's possible we may get Sophia episode before that. |

If there's one thing the show couldn't be accused of before this episode aired is that it was boring. But an episode that solely focuses on Kumin, inarguably the most boring character of the show, well, you get an episode that literally puts you to sleep.
But I guess that's what the episode was going for since it was all about "how to sleep". Seriously, the only funny parts in the show ever since the beginning have been the ones featuring Dekomori and Nibu-chin at each others' throats, which makes the last week's episode the strongest by far. Wasn't this season supposed to focus on Ren? If that's so then why is it that she of all people has had the least amount of screen time so far? She's the only who's seemingly capable of instigating progress in Togashi and Rikka's romantic relationship that's been stuck in an annoying rut. |

-Nibutani in CA uniform... HNNNNNGH!!
-Absolutely insane plot about napping tournaments. Those sleepy bubble effects were hilarious. If they keep this light and fluffy mood going, this could be their next K-on. (I hope they do) -Rika utters two normal words in a long time and they are: Nanda sorya!! Nanda korya!! XDD |

As much as I liked Kumin in the first season, she should stick as just a side character.
This was a filler episode right? Since Kumin is an anime original character, this was just a fool around episode. Episode was pretty boring until the end with the dream sequence, but hope the director doesn't expect to be able to bail out every boring episode with an epic chunni sequence. Problem right now is just that there's no direction for the season in where its trying to go. Yuuta's childhood friend appeared, but they're wasting time on filler characters instead of trying to build on that.

Yuuta's words "looks like nothing changed in the end" is describing this season perfectly.

Having Yuuta and Shichimiya belt out ZAQ's Monochrome Monster was a nice touch this episode, and having a closer look at the lyrics, feels strangely appropriate.
I hope to see more of Shichimiya and her antics in the coming episodes, though.

Quite frankly, I'm only watching this second season to see Sophia, and then they come around and start to do fillers and show her just for a few seconds a chapter... I just hope the fillers will stop soon and they can get back in track with the main story and give some protagonism to Sophia...

Which makes me wonder - if the lack of progression is being remarked upon by Yuuta, does this mean that the second half would put Yuuta and Rikka through another round of significant character development? I think that much of the Random comedy parts were strengthen by Satone, if anything. Which explains why those were often funnier. |

That nap battle scene kicked so much ass. Not only did Kumin look like a complete badass, but that background music...I can feel the Final Fantasy Tactics raging within me once more.
Awesome.
