american comedy anime cannot be made into japanese anime, it just doesn't work... i personally think it can't work the other way either, can anyone see excel saga or love hina or any strictly comedy anime turned into american anime? it just doesn't work.

japanese comedy anime isn't popular in america either, mostly it is the action ones that make it on television at all. i'm guessing it is the same way in japan, they'd probably reconise x-men or spawn before they'd reconise the simpsons.

they're already broadcasting Totally Spies (a feeble american attempt at mimicking anime) on japanese TV

That show was beyond lame. It's like every boring American cartoon made but draw in an anime style. I'm guessing the animators subcontracted some Korean company or something.

Actually it is a lame French production trying to mimic anime.

why would you want to change the simpsons? when you have a good thing, the only reason to make a cheap copy is to get money, so you know it wouldn't be as good. and since its already animated all you have to do is dub it (although losing the d'oh might be a bad idea).

it's not like you couldn't laugh at it if you were japanese, but since a large majority of the humor is satirical, if you didn't get the references, you'd be missing out on a lot.

My French is rusty but I think NinjaSetsuna is saying:
They are very stupid. I hate them.
Or you can copy and paste Ninja's french in an online translator .

From my understanding, the Simpsons are, in Japan, mostly associated with some sort of lemon water drink, to the extent that most Japanese think that's what the characters were originally created for. The show does air in Japan, but only on Sattelite tv and then only with limited exposure.

Would the Simpsons work as an anime? Well, considering that 'anime' means 'animated show', well then yes. However, if you mean as a Japanese style animated series, then it would not work any better than a Simpsons live action, or a live action version of any animated show. That's not to say that live action versions of any animated show is bad, but they are very different and often do not appeal to the fans of the animated version. The Simpsons is known for the art style and the specific sense of humour presented. It would not be The Simpsons if that was changed.

I totally agree, to post above. Anime is great, but it doesn't work for everything. Imagine seeing an Anime version of The Family Guy, or South Park. I'd be laughing so hard just looking at how the characters are made. Question, are 3D Animation shows popular in Japan, like Beast Machines or Reboot for an example? And I mean totally 3D.

Well, part of the Simpson's charm is it's style. It would never work as an anime.

Oh, and just to let everyone know, the Simpsons IS the most successful cartoon ever in North America. In fact, I believe it's closing in on being the most successful show period, cartoon or not. That's how popular the series is.

Personally, I think they've kinda gone downhill since a couple years ago. It seems to me like they are running out of ideas. But like the creators stated in an interview, FOX will probably milk it for every penny before it ends.

On an off topic note, is anyone else excited about the possible return of Family Guy? I know I can't wait for it.

the recent few years have been stale because of some new writers that were added to the show. sometimes you have to look out for the good writers rather than look out for the plot of the show. some recent episodes have really made me laugh. the simpsons is still running even now because it keeps on doing things and saying things that people wouldn't expect, and it has been doing this for over a decade and they still haven't gone as far as they could. hell, south park has been around nearly half the amount of time because of the same reason, but it has gone WAY farther. the simpsons has still quite some fight left in them if they wish to push themselves in shock value.

yea, family guy kicks ass, but there isn't much to be said that hasn't been said in the family guy topic in general chat

Shame they only showed southpark season 1 in japan. It really got much better later on, and is in my eyes the superior show put against simpsons. Yes, its more vulgar, but it dares to hit sensetive issues and idiotic things in society in a extremely hard way. The fact that simpsons is more populair i think is it has almost been running twice as long and is just more kiddie friendly .
