Any one here listen to the Howard Stern Show??
While I might not agree with everything he says nor some of the "humor" he uses, I think it's not right what the goverments trying to do. I belive that the FCC is overstepping their bounds and that they are going after Howard because he is one of the bigger targets out there. Here are some sights relating to this issue: http://www.howardstern.com and http://www.cnn.com/2004/US/Northeast...ward.stern.ap/ and http://www.ftfcc.org/pages/2/index.htm and finaly http://www.koam.com/
My questions for you are as follows: 1) Do you think that Howard Stern is allowed to say things that could be considered offensive under the freedome of speech? 2) Is going after Howard Stern and not the other guys fair and keeping in compliance with what the FCC is supposed to stand for. My opion is yes Howard should be allowed to disscus what he wants as long as he follows the general guide lines like no f word and so on. And secondly if they are going to take Howard of the air they better fine the other guys as well. What do you guys think???? |

hmm all the links you gave except for the CNN one (which is neutral) are pro-Howard so we can't be really objective here... I only read the CNN one, and it just seems that he was going overboard if all his program consisted of was "naked women and toilet humor." I'm thinking he probably saw it coming....

Its true and I am sorry that I couldnt find better links. And maybe I didnt clarify my point enough. But what I was trying to say is that if they are going to take out howard stern they need to go after everyone else and atleast warn them... It dosnt seem to me like they are going to do that

I do not mind Howard Stern... though... I don't find his humor funny all the time... unfortunately, here in Toronto... they've taken him off the air for a long time... so I haven't heard a good portion of his new material... it's probably the same deal as before right?

I dont think the point is if you like his humor or not. The point is should he really be harrassed as much as he is and will this then lead into an era of unabashed censoring of all things. The thing that gets me is that from what I can tell (and I may be wrong) the majority of the public has no problem with Howard. Its almost like being in a building where one or two people out of ten complain to the landlord that the heat is too high. He turns it down and the other eight are now out of luck. The public at large cant even vote on this issue. We have to wait until elections and vote for people who wont tolerate censorship and by then the damage may already be done.

I think he should be allowed to say whatever he wants on the air. I agree with every point he has made in his argument. He isnt wrong at all. So what if he talks about sex, perverted things etc....Who freaking cares? If you dont want to listen to it, then turn it off. Also people said that he would be allowed to say the stuff he does if it was on late at night like after 11pm. Yea...that doesnt make sense. Thats exactly when younger people would be listening. Howard is also a pretty smart guy. I remember listening to the show on 9/11 and I have to say his coverage was as good or better then just about anyone elses. He shouldnt be taken off the air because of what he says and the type of show he runs. I also agree that one of the other reasons he is the only one being targeted is beause of his political views. That is definatly a large factor.

I think that in this case he is more like a political puppet, he is the tool that will shift the law of this country slightly to the left or right (liberal or conservative). whenever something that challenges people's civil liberties, like this one, comes up, there must always be a case that will serve as the intrument to disrupt the current order of things... like recently the issue of gay marriage was brought up by a certain gay couple who sued the state, and these people started the controversy, although the issue has long existed......Whats another example.....In the affirmative action decision last year someone had SUED some university, they lost, and had to appeal to the Courts......In Brown v. Board of education the girl also sued and took the case to the SUpreme Court thereby changing the law.......It takes a public case to solve a political issue, and my bet as to why he's the only one being targeted is because they only NEED one, and since the spotlight is on him, it was him. Do you get it? Once his case is settled, whatever decision was made will apply to all the others, equally. And that's my theory. |

Well as promised the show got taken off the air. It got replaced by some show hosted by douchebags. They say really fun family stuff like " This is the fun talkshow without all the filth". Then they have fake callers who call in and say "wow guys I love your show, it's really fun without all the flith". They keep explaining how the show is cool and fun and the whole family can tune in to it cause it's got no filth. Then the lady goes ... "Omg I love Enimen, yeah he's a very cool artist."
I had a mental image where I was stabbing Bush in the face as I was listening to this. |
