Angelica already saw your messages, and she has a reply.
She't not fluent in english, so she asked me to just translate what she said.

What do you guys think of people who cosplay but don't look the part?

We have a thread for that (though no one has posted there in a while) called "Cosplay at its worst" or some such. Personally, I'm not fond of it. At times, I think it is actually disrespectful to the character.

On the other hand, I know that people start somewhere - if they're trying to improve their body shape and bettering their costuming skills, slack should be given.

Myself, I'd be stupid to cosplay anything other than, say, Van Helsing or Colonel Graham, some muscular oji-san type.

Cosplaying is an art. However, as a body art, it should be taken into account that people change physically. Guys get more muscular, girls get bigger chests and skinnier faces, etc. Then again, being an art, it requires practice, and it doesn't get easier, you just get better. Time is a bitch.

It has a high learning curve and requires one to feel and get into character in order to pull off a great cosplay, that is why people do it mediocre-ly because they are just in it for the fun, not being able to have the physical shape to do their favourite line of character anymore.

Give them a break. It is entertainment too.

No, I am not going to entertain any correspondence about trap cosplay.

If they're having fun, then good for them. Personally, I judge cosplays by accuracy of costume. That would include the details of the costume, detials of props, quality of wig, use of colored/circle lenses, make-up, and how they portray the character.
So as you can see, physical appearance and body form aren't part of my criteria, although they can be bonuses.
Alot of people who look bad in their cosplay also have poor quality costumes and don't exert so much effort.

So should someone that simply don't have the physique to pull off the cosplay not to cosplay that character and cosplay something else?

Real life example: One of my former colleague is quite short, she cosplayed Belldandy and although her dress is really nice, she looks more like the chibi version. I think she would make a fantastic Skuld.

Will you tell her she would be a better Skuld? or "as long as she had fun it doesn't matter"?

Then they came for me and force me to be a vegan by that time no one was left to speak up.

For the sake of your kneecaps, I'd say just go with the "chibi Belldandy" concept.

You might try this: "Have you ever thought about doing Skuld? That might look really good."

That way you don't talk about Belldandy at all.

Thanks for the answers.

I was thinking that, too. The costume matters most, and matching physique are bonuses. Though I could imagine changing yourself to match better (well, only weight and skin anyway).

IMO, height shouldn't be an obstacle. Sure, her build may be for Skuld, but it may be that she likes the character Belldandy a lot. You can suggest Skuld, but if she prefers Belldandy, then let her go for it.

@Godlike

Thanks. Glad you liked some of the pics.

Next convention is just a few days from now, and it's a large one. There would probably be some Code Geass cosplayers there.

EDIT:

Alleah already saw your post. She got happy about what you said. She said "thanks" (to you).

This is a really cool thread! I saw some Morrigan Dragon Age photos up and thought I would add these, even though Dragon Age isn’t technically Anime.

I was about to say the white bra was off but a lot of the concept art does indeed have her wearing one. Rest of the outfit looks pretty good.

Sorry for quoting my own post. But I just need to say that Otaku Expo got cancelled (unfortunately).

There would be one this coming February 23 though, UP AME, and this one for sure won't get cancelled. Going to attend it, and share pics here.
Will post plenty of pics from UP AME, to make up for not being able to post anything from Otaku Expo.
