looks like i'll be maining Izayoi day 1 now unless you have to unlock her first.

That's the "Zero-Weave" gauge and it's for her mode change. In normal mode her attacks build up power on that gauge while in Gain Arte mode her attacks spend power from it.

is that how it is?

or are her specials buffed, if it consumed some of the "Zero-Weave" gauge?

Her normals and specials change in gain arte mode.

The example given in the Famitsu mag (this detail is not on the site yet) was her Sonic Sabre special. In normal mode it's just a long range sword attack. In gain arte mode, it adds a few more blades that hold the opponent in place.

Gain arte mode also replaces her ground dash with a hover dash.

a friend of mine told me that the translation for Izayoi's overdrive name is "Freedom Justice"
it may differ on the english version but... Freedom Justice?
makes me wonder if Izayoi's character design was based off of a character on Gundam Seed

Her thrusters have cones on them. The cones glow and emit particles in gain arte mode. Clearly they are GN Drives.
