Holy crap, I seriously love this show to bits right now. Lots of great plot developments packed into just one hour. Don't know why they sent a giant knight as an assassin but boy was he menacing and it made for a thrilling struggle for the siblings. It was great to see how the siblings grew up and how they were subtly influenced in different ways. Casval was older and may have understood better than Artesia just how wronged they were by the Zabi family which would have made him more receptive to Granpa Ral's desire for revenge. The fact that he and his family were the target of attacks (and possibly stalking) eventually pushed him over the edge. In contrast, Artesia might not have noticed the constant stalking and wasn't living in fear as much as Casval was (I also liked how the episode left it up to interpretation on whether they were actually being stalked or whether it was just Casval's paranoia). I do have a small gripe with the episode in that it went from Char's celebration in joining Zeon to Casval leaving Artesia very quickly but otherwise I think the development between the siblings was wonderful.

And what was equally wonderful was that it wasn't just the siblings that it focused on but also the adults that revolved around them, all of whom were interesting and unique characters in their own right with different beliefs and behaviours. Ramba Ral's participation into the Zaku prototype development was particularly amazing but so was Papa Mass's kindhearted desire to raise the siblings in the face dangerous political turmoil. The focus on the adults also allowed us to see the political angle in everything which, combined with some detailed and varied settings, maintained and incredibly immersive atmosphere and background.

The White Base crew cameos were a nice touch but the biggest lol came from the introduction of Casval's doppelganger named Char Aznable, who takes the term "Char clone" and completely turns it upside down (It was also amusing to see them size each other up in what had to be a pretty awkward moment).

And from Casval's sword fighting and horse riding to the Zaku development, there were so many easter eggs I forgot it was meant to be Halloween. Great episode.

I really enjoyed Casval's expressions. His deranged glare sent chills down my spine... not many anime succeeded in doing that!

I remember that when I watched the original Gundam, I always thought "whoa, Char is a little crazy", especially when he got Garma so casually.

Well, I'm now wondering howcome Char didn't become an utter psycho. That's one utterly crappy childhood.

About the show itself... while I'm watching Gundam, I almost felt the MS bits somewhat forced. "Oh yeah, something for the fans who expect metal-on-metal action!" I could have skipped those bits if more time was given to Casval, who was the absolute spotlight in my opinion.

(I'm also slightly worried that the show will invalidate the manga "Developers - Kidou Senshi Gundam: Before One Year War". It's pretty good manga about how the MS04-Zaku came to be, and so far things aren't looking well for it...)

Actually, why does Zeon's greatest prototype weapon have a glass cockpit when the "oldschool" Early Version Guntank already sports a sealed cockpit with a projected view? I get that a prototype needs to have flaws, but why would they even design it that way?

Damn that was so good despite having little action

I swear, watching this OVA is like watching destiny unfold, its awesome

HAhhaha seeing Ral beat some Feddie ass was awesome, it seems like its a regular thing too on how the bartender just went with it

Seeing the origin of the mono-eye Zeon suits was awesome, and to top it off they naturally kept the classic activation sound of the "eye". Plus Ral is involved, awesome. Dozle is still my fav Zabi, and seeing the Black Tri Stars is always nice

My only issue of this episode: Ummmmm why a knight with a sword for an assassin???? (other than cool factor) Im pretty damn sure no armor+a gun is the proper way to do things......

Whoa their parents met in a bar? Thats surprising for some odd reason even though it happens all the time.........

That school principle is a prophet, I swear!!! (On a more serious note, that was one of the shortest most acute descriptions of Char. Ever.)

Damn that look in Casval's eyes.........chilling

Im seriously surprised how little screentime Char got here, despite his role, especially considering his fate (the ACTUAL Char, not Casval to be clear)

Poor Artesia, first her mom, Lucifer, then her brother.....Im surprised she didn't go mad with grief at that age

The references and cameos:

-Mirai and her dad
-Loum/Side 5/Texas Colony, guess we know why they like riding horses
-Amuro and his dad (+Haro before Amuro tinkered with it)

If this episode is any indication, next episode (Dawn of Rebellion) will be absolutely chilling when he dons the mask

Pretty good episode overall. I got caught off guard with the knight assassin although he seemed like legit badass when he went for the kill. I also had a smile for reason during that brawl at the Eden bar.

Edouard's portrayal is pretty rough especially in the second half of the episode. I have some mixed feelings about his relationship with his family. Felt bad for their Mother though ;_; and of course Artesia. That cliffhanger has the chills. What a catchy ED theme song though, loved t.

Can I just say I found it highly amusing that they decided to have a Char clone voice Char?

? The credits say it was Shuichi Ikeda (Char's original VA from the original series) who voiced him. And I had no doubt about it listening to him in the episode, though for some reason Ikeda's voice just felt a little off during the first part of the episode.

I think what he meant was Toshihiko Seki voicing the real Char in this, and he voiced a Char clone in Gundam Seed ( Rau Le Creuset )

Zoel is correct, but as always I should clarify my posts a lot more. Sorry about that.

Was I the only one who found it hilarious how old man Zabis had Garma switch cars with him?

If you haven't read the mange/details, the answer is in the next episode

If you want to spoil it, ask one of us or go read Char's Gundam Wiki page
