First impressions here. I thought that was pretty good. Covered pretty much all the bases, horror-wise, and didn't seem to take itself too seriously.
Am I the only one who thought of Densuke (Dennou Coil) instantly when we saw Love, the dog? And Tsuna (Reborn!) when we saw Akira, the little brother? This was the studio and character designer who brought us the original season of Minami-ke, but I would never have guessed that without fore-knowledge.

Just watched episode 1. I'm liking the series so far due to the creepy and mysterious atmosphere it has. It kinda reminds me of Ghost Hunt. Not to mention, the facial expression of the characters are just disturbing sometimes.

You were right the first time, Ono Fuyumi is the author of both Shiki and Ghost Hunt. Also 12 Kingdoms.
Fujisaki Ryu is the mangaka for Shiki, probably best known for Hoshin Engi. Inada Shiho is the mangaka for Ghost Hunt. stops with her useless GH facts

A solid first episode to get things started. Though I personally wasn't that happy when Megumi did end up dying even though it was expected. Had some negative qualities, but still felt bad for her. Didn't really appreciate the people around her, but just a case of not quite fitting into her surroundings and wanting to go to that larger world. Well either way she is gone and we'll see more from the other characters as events unfold.

Well, this was certainly an interesting first episode. It took a while getting used to the more schizophrenic bits of animation, but they probably fit, seeing those pretty much overlapped with character delusion-moments. Wasn't really sure what to think of Megumi, though in the end i accepted her character - her frustrations about being forced to live in such a middle-of-nowhere village and dreaming of better ways to come are not hard to understand. And then they went and killed her off A shame, because i thought she had the potential of being a rather interesting character given time, despite her apparent one-track mind for now.
I found the mood pretty fitting when the show was trying to set it up as creepy, and i guess it largely can be attributed to the musical score - there just seemed something otherworldly haunting about the tunes, which went a long way in helping the atmosphere. All in all, a pretty interesting presentation and setup, will be interesting to see how the story develops and how the various people are going to connect with the mystery.
