Is this show is running on 1/2 a cour?
It feels like I'm already at the halfway point of the show already. Anyway, Wakana's singing voice was a pleasant surprise. It got me wondering if they actually replaced her VA with a different person!

Wonderful episode. I can understand people sustaining that it was rushed, but it didn't bother me one bit. It did have substance and was very detailed (well the principal's hair were kinda like Louis XV, but whatever). Great details were the likes of Sawa in maternity, Konatsu and Sawa crossing ways at the hospital while on the phone, Sakai silently adding a cake for each favour (but meanwhile showing great generosity), Sawa's friend-slap, the niconico video.
Speaking of Konatsu, I can't help but think she's a split copy of Chihayafuru's Chihaya. Not for the look, but mentality-wise. They both want to found an unlikely new club (karuta unlikely because of few appliers, here the chorus unlikely because there's already one) but against the odds they manage to do it, they're both enthusiastic and often mindless about what they do, they both tend to suffer when under pressure. On the whole, they both are on the messy side, but are strong-willed and have loving and supporting friends. And of course, Seto Asami. Whoever casted her did see Chihayafuru and knew which kind of character Konatsu was going to be. It just can't be a coincidence. In this particular episode I came to appreciate Sakai too. She's the type with a plausible tragic past setup. She used to study and love music, most likely she was a great musician/singer in the making as well, but music is probably strongly connected to her mother's loss, thus refraining her from any further steps. Still she's got some fame because as the principal was saying "I can't allow some random persons..." he read Sakai's name, and turned to "This could be interesting after all". Takagaki Ayahi's performance so far is spot on. Sawa, following up from episode 1, turns out to be more and more the supportive and caring type of friend anyone would like to have. She needs some more background, outside being a good archer, and having a horse as pet. Hayami Saori with her gentle voice is a perfect fit. Didn't think a "duo" choir with piano accompaniment would be so powerful and emotions conveying. Besides, music is supposed to be the main factor of the show so it's to be expected they put some extra effort on it. Well done, I'm very satisfied of what I've seen so far in this series. Now what's next? The vice principal in charge of her nemesis club? It'd be kinda lol. Also curious to see the other two characters in the OP, since they're supposed to be among the five protagonists. According to preview, badminton guy should be next.

I don't doubt that V.P. is going to get her development (the OP proves it) but I hope they don't go overboard with something heartwarming about how she's actually a misunderstood sweetheart. I also really hope Taichi and Wien aren't just in the OP for show, because actually having a mixed cast of characters that actually matter was one of the few things that made this premise seem less than completely derivative. The series managed to be entertaining for the opening arc without them, but I'd like to see that rectified going forward.
