Summer 2007 Anime Review Thread: Post Your Opinion and Grade

Like we've done in previous seasons, list any Summer 2007 anime that you've seen, talk about why you like (or dislike) it, and give it a grade. Summer 2007 refers to anime which begun airing in June, July and August.

Use this format:

Title: Title of anime i.e. Zetsoubou Sensei
Rating: A+ - F scale, i.e. D+ or C+ or B-
Episodes Viewed: Episodes you have seen. i.e. 1 - 3
(Mini-Review goes here. i.e. I liked the first two episodes of Zetsoubou Sensei, because it's a new refreshing kind of anime, plus we need a bit of brilliant black comedy once in while)

The protagonist seems unusual and amusing, and a girl who is anathema to electonics in a technology immersed society is nice material to work with.

Doujin Work
Rating: B

The yuri joke right off the bat did the trick.

Moe-tan
Rating: D+

Ugh. I don't know what else to say.

Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei
Rating: C

It's not really my type of humor... well, either that or it's just not very funny.

School Days
Rating: C
Episodes Viewed: 2
Painfully embarrassing to watch.

Sky Girls
Rating: B
Episodes Viewed: 1
The first episode left me cautiously interested. Can't really determine much since it was mostly intro.

Umisho
Rating: C+
Episodes Viewed: 2
The ecchi is good. Not much else so far.

Zero no Tsukaima 2nd Season
Rating: B
Episodes Viewed: 2
OMG the bondage scene was hilarious.

Zombie-Loan
Rating: B-
Episodes Viewed: 2
Ehh, who knows. It might turn out interesting... most likely won't.

Review: She is cute. That's it, but she is cute. I'll probably survive 5 episodes before I succumb to the childish plot, but damn, so cute.

School Days
Rating: B+

Review: If you're seen my posts on the School Days thread, then you'd know that I thoroughly bashed this series. I still liked it, and I wish that it would somewhat deviate from the game.

Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei
Rating: D

Review: I really couldn't stand the half-arsed animation and it wasn't funny to me.

EDIT: Thanks so much for stickifying a thread like this. I've been uncertain about which series I want to follow and hopefully this thread will clear some of that up and I can pick out series to my liking based on the brief synopses.

Higurashi No Naku ni Kai
Rating: A
Episodes Viewed: 2

I did NOT realise how much I loved Higurashi until it came back. I'm only holding back the A+ because I've only seen two episodes, but I haven't been so engrossed in a plot this much in AGES (In an anime). Sure, I've liked other plots, and anticipating plot twists and stuff, but Higurashi has been the only series which makes me *want* to pay attention to every small detail.

It does this not by throwing all this complex techno babble and the like to try and confuse me (Like other series which claim to be complex), but has this simple sugary coating on the surface which draws people in. With Higurashi's plot, I WANT to participate. The characters are awesome, too. While all of them subscribe to the moe club, they have a just a bit more depth than other characters who are similar.

Er, so yeah. The first two episodes of Kai have kept my attention, and I'm looking forward to learning more about Rika.

Theres almost no delay in plot development. A good beginning for the 2nd season.

Moetan

Girl turns into a magical girl to teach english? Feels like it's for kids at time.

Potemayo
Rating: A

My surprise of the season. I thought it looked stupid at first but it's quite funny. Weirdest name since Dogtato-kun (anime is not similar to it)

School Days
Rating: B
Episodes Viewed: 3
Has a surprise waiting at the end of each episode and characters that you just love to hate.

Title: Code-E
Rating: B+
Episodes Viewed: 1-2
(High school romance with a scifi/mystery twist. It's looking pretty interesting so far.)

Title: Nanatsuiro Drops
Rating: B-
Episodes Viewed: 1-3
(It's a magical girl series, but with some romance too. Still just getting started but it looks promising.)

Title: Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei
Rating: C+
Episodes Viewed: 1-2
(Interesting art style, and amusing in it's own quirky way, but this one had not really grabbed me yet.)

Title: Kenkou Zenrakei Suieibu Umisho
Rating: C+
Episodes Viewed: 1-2
(Funny but so far fairly shallow romantic comedy. Interesting cast of characters and lots of fanservice. )

Unfortunately, due to bandwidth issues, I can only get a few series now at a time. I'm currently focused on ONE summer series, though.

Title: Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei
Episodes Seen: 1-5
Overall Grade: A
Comments: This show is quality++. Many thanks to Akiyuki Shinbo and Studio Shaft for producing this gem. Looking forward to the manga if/when it hits North American shores.

Title: Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei
Episodes Seen: 5
Grade: A
Hilarious mix of school harem and dark comedy. Reminds me a lot of Welcome to the NHK! with all the eccentric personalities and attacks on society. Too bad about the short amount of episodes it's going to be. And this is easily Akiyuki Shinbo's best work (Tsukuyomi is a little boring, Hidamari Sketch has interesting moments, Negima!? plain sucked, haven't seen PPD).

Title: School Days
Episodes Seen: 7
Grade: B+
Intense high school love drama. I hope the reason you're all watching this is to hope that Makoto dies, and that you've heard about the game and it's bloody bad endings. I'd register this on a higher entertainment scale than KGNE (similar series).

Title: Zero no Tsukaima II
Episodes Seen: 7
Grade: C-
So far, we're getting more of the same, though it's leaning more towards the harem side (see 4 and 6). The plot starts out right away (credits), but we haven't seen any badass action yet. For now, it's inferior to the first series in the same place.

Title: Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Kai
Episodes Seen: 6
Grade: B
Definitely an improvement: more intense atmosphere, better fleshed out story, increased animation budget, etc.. Mysteries are wrapping up in a good way.

Rating from the point of entertainment only.

Title: Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei
Rating: A to B- as season went on

Basic formula seems to be a museum of weirds, ok.

Title: Zero No Tsukaima II

Was painful at the beginning, getting better with an existent although unenergetic plot.

School Days

I can only tolerate stupidity for so long, uncultured and banal boy. Dropped. High school is .

Doujin Works
Rating: B+ and increasing

This show feels very short. Nothing happens per episode, but still entertaining.
