No Bataan, Singapore, Tarawa or even Okinawa. Color me a bit disappointed by this return to WW2. Sure, we have seldom-explored locations like Rotterdam, but it feels kind of a restricted viewpoint with purely European maps.

Well they did mention that for this game they were going back to what brought about the BF series, which was BF 1942 and it's maps. The focus of WW2 was mainly the European theater. Who knows, maybe the end of year two (end of 2019) or even 2020 will have said maps, but I doubt it. Regardless, I'm still excited; unfortunately, I need to upgrade my PC by Nov 20th!

The current mechanics/balance in the beta make the game seem really out of whack.
+ It's easier to 'snipe' players from node to node (conquest size maps) with the Assault/Support classes rather than using a Sniper (assuming you don't headshot with the Sniper) + Needing to use the specific spotting scope to relay positional information (as opposed to the more generic older spotting) means you can be picked off by people you'd never find (and teammates are unlikely to spot them either) + Dynamite 'flys' an absolutely stupidly long distance (granted it might be needed to actually land the explosive on vehicles). If you have your squad just feeding you 'ammo' though you can literally use it to push forward as a carpet bombing mechanism (throw, detonate, repeat) + Lack of 'spawn protection/spacing' meaning you can literally spawn right in front of an enemy.

So...loaded it yesterday, played only one match due to timetable constraints and tried again today. For some reason the game felt more sluggish than the alpha despite being more stable (no CTDs, no more bugs like infinite bleedout, which makes me very happy) and reusing the same settings as the previous test build. I ended up switching back to DX11 and...miracle, everything runs buttery smooth now (or thereabouts, it's not 100% perfect, but it's a far cry from my previous calvary). The DX12 mode had me feeling like I was trying to run the marathon using the body of "I'm Fluffy"-era Gabriel Iglesias (not his current, leaner body - the guy had to go on an emergency diet due to health -and lifespan- concerns). I know my rig is getting a bit old (i5-2500, non-K, 8Gb RAM and a GTX970), but it's still holding well with other games (I recently tried Ghost Recon Wildlands on it at max settings and didn't have many noteworthy problems).
Gunplay still has me questioning the existence of a God in this universe due the unholy dispersion I'm encountering when firing my guns, even from a prone position for maximum stability. Next step for me will be to tweak the mouse sensitivity settings and hope I can get some of my old deftness back. I'm getting tired of seeing most of my bullets take a hike somewhere else by a wide margin even when my target is barely ten meters away from me. And if another guy tells me to "git gud" again, I'll find a way to break into his home or flat and slip an entire colony of fire ants in his underwear stash. I swear... No bugs so far, aside maybe from a few "what I am not vaulting over this obstacle when I'm clearly pressing the button for that action?" instances and a strange ragdoll effect where I see dead bodies hanging from midair by the waist (the bodies are dangling in a circumflex accent pose, as if an invisible hand was holding them from the waist). Haven't had a chance to use the vehicles yet, they're once again being spawn-camped by my own team. I've had the opportunity to be the hull machine gunner in a Matilda, though, but that still leaves me pining for a better vehicular experience, if any.

The game runs smoothly in all ultra with a 1060 gtx 6g in my case, although paradoxally, the main menu is sluggish as hell.
That said, I and my friends got a major caveat with the beta: the squad system is literally broken. More often than not, we can't see each other in the same squad. If we have some pub, kicking them for a friend will not clear their name, leading to some awkward situation where that player is still seen with the kicked player name. Sometimes the squad is disbanded midgame for no reason, or worse: we somehow got split into 2 different squads too. Origin is also going bonkers with invitations not being sent, then got massively duplicated later on, thus spamming some of us for no reason. That fucked up squad system made PUBG's "great" in comparison, and that's definitely not a compliment from me.

They should put some information on how to obtain certain mods... like I play with iron sight... so there should be a hint how can I unlock lens... is it from leveling up the gun/ clearing challange/ with level or maybe you have to buy it. The whole menu is a bit baddly made, its too spread out and not in one place.
I noticed a problem with item purchase...I bought it and the item did not show up...had to turn off the game and start again to let it kick in. Vehicles are also...1tank for 32players and this is supposed to be battlefield. Played for like 2-3hours so far but the game is not special in any way. In places its gets even a bit boring...and with 10-15snipers camping in each team its even slower...They should put a class limit to the servers at least and force people to actually engage in combat and not sit in one spot for most of the time. Squads are bugged a bit too... there were so many times when people left squads only to later find out like five or six squads with 1player becouse they left and could not enter any other squad so people were stuck with many 1man teams |

+ faster bullet travel speed (less drop) + weapon swapping speed (least, I think this was an option on the Snipers) + Bipod The need to use the spotting gadget (to get spots) is a good thing (in the sense that spotting, like ammo and medics now have a meaningful role) but it makes it more or less impossible to counter-snipe anyone who is sniping you from across the entire map (you'll never have to time to figure out where they are since you need a dedicated gadget to spot across the map). They still need to put a much greater emphasis on objectives (vs kills for ticket attrition) in order to make the game more team oriented though (which, would eliminate the snipers spawn camping because it wouldn't be worth while)

Looks like (haven't read the articles, so I could be wrong) one perspective will be from the Senegalese Tirailleurs, a group of soldiers from the French colonies in Africa (Senegal, Mali) sent to fight for France. And that looks like the battle of Britain and maybe one of the many battles of Narvik. I suppose we could also hope for an El Alamein chapter?

Got it right: those were indeed the Tirailleurs sénégalais who fought in Operation Dragoon. And the SBS part looks like a mild shoutout to the Dirty Dozen and takes place either in Palestine or in Lybia. The SBS were actually more active in Greece (Crete, notably) and the Adriatic Sea rather than Africa, even though they were based both in Haifa and Alexandria at one point (I wonder if DICE should have used the LRDG instead...even though all LRDGs were volunteers rather than convicts being given a chance at redemption). However, that war story could very well cover the period where the SBS were used to recon the Algerian coastline prior to Operation Torch, the US-UK invasion of the Vichy-governed North Africa.

Been following LevelCapGaming since BF3 days. He is a die-hard Battlefield fan (but not so much an EA/DICE fan) and he always produces great content. If you have 23 minutes to spare and are on the fence of buying the game or just want a quality review, I'd recommend watching his review of BFV. Gonna pick it up myself, just haven't gotten around to it. Tbh, I'm still on the fence about it, but I just wanna pick it up and start shooting dudes. Been a LONG while since I last played a game like this. Or rather, haven't played a game like this since BF1 which was more than 6 months ago.

FYI game is 50% off on all platforms until December 20th. Definitely a steal for those on the fence. Despite low overall sales, they seem to have followed suit on Bethesda's decision to go on sale during the Black Friday week/weekend.
Game definitely feels different from BF1, but I am still enjoying it to the max (more-so with my new 27" gsync monitor and RTX 2080 ). Worse comes to worse, you can buy the game and return it right away. EA/Origin has a pretty lenient policy on game returns via origin.

The worst part of BFV would have to be the 'unlock' system for the various specializations (especially the aircraft). There's no alternative except for 'using' said weapon/vehicle, there's just no 'counter-play' or meaningful alternative possible except for suiciding runs and hoping you get some points contributing to the vehicle to make it meaningful.

How’d everyone do with Tides of War's Overture assignments? I managed to get my Panzer IV and Tiger I maxed out with patience – Battlefield V shows that playing the Shiho Nishizumi-ryū as some have tried Allier with World of Tanks simply won’t end well.

Completed every single assignment (as painful as that was). Unfortunately due to being bugged as far as company coins are concerned I can't actually afford to do anything as far as speccing/upgrades :'(
I only get 300 CC per day (dailies) so it takes forever.

lvlcap's review was good, but I don't trust DICE to patch BFV post-release, especially since it didn't sell too well. From a business perspective it'd make more sense to forget about this failure and focus on the new Frostbyte engine games that EA is forcing them to release in november 2019 and 2020.

I've been watching my brother streaming this for last few days and it really looks light of content. Especially with the progression trees, which look to be padded out with weapon skins split into separate parts and duplicate melee/sidearms throughout the classes. Also the way the weapon "pool" is shared almost the sides just looks weird, with german's running around with brit weapons and wise versa. I imagine people would get bored with whats on offer relatively quickly.
Though I did notice they quietly toned down how bonkers the whole games looks in terms of historical authenticity, with no cricket bat wielding female amputees or katana wielding commandos to be seen anywhere.

Many people are still struggling with 'company coin' bugs, where they don't actually earn any and thus cannot afford to unlock specialisations and stuff. They've tried to fix it (2-3 times now) and still failed to resolve the issue. 'Weapons' (as in what the soldiers use) for most classes only require a player to use the 1st, 3rd and final unlock weapons (those are generally the best weapons in the game). It makes no sense to use any other weapon which makes the game-play a little stale Vehicles are asymetrical and there are significant differences/advantages. Even vehicles that are supposed to perform a similar role (each faction) have different specialisations/unlocks. ○ Axis has the best 'bomber' plane in the game (due to the payload it carries and the impossibility of killing it unless it is engaged in a 1vMany fight) ○ Allies have better 'fighters' (which destroy other aircraft and infantry) ○ Allies have the best vehicle(land) in the game, because it counters literally everything and has stupid amounts of ammo
