I don't think you need any prior knowledge to watch this show as I can watch Total Eclipse just fine without any Muv-Luv knowledge. I can't say for sure for this one but I would assume the same.

It's a bit funny how they give us numerous twists within the same episode. Like "oh no, his family got shot in his past so his sister is dead". Then "oh wow, this girl looks like his sister, but wait, she is not! Pseudo replacement found!" And then "well, actually his sister is still alive, too, we fooled you into thinking she was replaced. Now we have two sister characters, yeah!"

Also I like how Katia actually looks older than she is, or at least she doesn't look younger. lol

Anyway, I am pleasently amused at how this more or less follows Germany's east-west history accurately. The way they depictured people's mindset and behavior seems spot on with how everyone is on edge. I believe Katia's cheerfulness and straightforwardness is supposed to give us an idea how Western Germans think and behave in contrast.

Pretty decent first ep. I'll give this series a shot. Funny seeing highly advanced mechs shortly after WW2 but I get this is sci-fi fantasy.

Action is happening in 80's, if I got it right?

Huh, I started watching the episode without any knowledge of the settings and was greeted with BETA...
Ah, Muv-Luv just with a different name because... the setting is Germany? ...?
Anyways, plan to enjoy the carnage, but I don't recall the previous anime being much more worthy than that. So we get some mentally unstable girl being deployed and causing someone probably of higher worth dying. Some girl that looks like the protagonist's sister wants to join the other side, and another girl that obviously is the sister is alive and fine on the other side. Sounds cool.
Also, there is some lady who is really bossy, some Iinchou-looking girl slapping the new girl, and the rest I haven't remembered.

Yes, SM is placed in the 80's before TE.

Pretty fun debut so it's on my watch list. The second half of the episode was too rushed though. I was like WUT when Katie(?) immediately requested to join the squad as soon as she was rescued.

As usual, in the grim darkness of Muv-Luv, there is only waifu's.

Don't forget blood and the most caricature-ish of caricature villians

Is placed in the 80's and Muv-luv verse is quite a lot more advanced than current real world, even back then.

I'm quite interested in this as a whole more so than I was in Total Eclipse from the get-go, altho I felt TE's slower start was a bit better. The cold war setting is more interesting than one who's main purpose is to test a new TSF.

Theodor doesn't seem to be a mechaphile like Yuuya, which is a + for me(tell me he isn't) and he prob had the best line this ep "Insane pilots need to stay off the battlefield." I don't care how good or genius that pilot is, if they can't control themselves, they're a threat to their comrades, as seen.

I liked the episode. The settings and the gritty atmosphere full of cool girls always works for me. Everything but the little sister. I understand that people like these kinds of characters, but it's a bit hard for me to get accustomed to it in this kind of settings.
At least this will put the MC in an interesting position, between an hard and soft place, namely between his leader and his sister-alike. That until he wont meet his real sister.
About that, her sister I mean, I can see how it will be related to his leader, Irisdina and her whole issue about his brother and what he accuses her with.
For now Irisdina is the one who impressed me most. Glad she is type to scold the MC when he needs to.

Muv-Luv is this:

- Early stage - an enjoyable story with nice humor and some plot.
- Middle - Serious things full of enemies, complots, conspirations, waifu and more WAIFU also top gun
- Last stage - Edginess at the max level, deadly waifu (beatrix as example), rape, more rape, deaths, more deaths

Even with this I still love muv-luv but what i want to see is a second season of TE so I can rage watching it.

Yeah, I don't want to relive TE. I have half a mind dropping this right here...

Sounds like a concept to make lots of money with. XD

Don't think so, at least the episode I saw had lots of exploding heads, crushing heads, ripped apart bodies and what not without any black stuff on them to hide said things.

As far as I understand it is censored. I also saw the lighted version of the scene where Iris mercy kills Inghild and quite a few details were hidden with the dark.

I don't think it is necessary to put those details in an anime. So I doubt there will ever be "uncensored" version of it.

In case someone is curious. Here is an image.
