So the rumors were true. A bit sad. It is actually as bit ironical considering that IMS management tried not to repeat AIC higher-ups mistakes but got in the same situation.

Think Akeno will eventually be promoted as captain of one of those Yamato-class battleships at the end of this? Those beauties are going to have a bigger role based on the poster and the last trailer.

If I had to guess, the movie's going to be about recovering these new warships after something happens to them, and after some failed attempts, Akeno will be sent in. There's nothing official yet, though, so all of this is pure speculation.

I mean more, why were they all built in the first place? One assumes they aren't 1940s era built ships still in service, but built much later. They are all in Yamato's original configuration (wing turret secondaries, far, far less AA guns). But they also have modern style warships.

There isn't a war on in the story that I am aware of. So what are these battleships designed to do? What is their function in the world they are in? Unlike Girls und Panzer, I don't see a world having Warship Sports games (unless they have adopted World of Warships as a live sport).

The older ships are used as part of the practical training for students, so it’s not out of the question that the academy placed an order for multiple Yamato-class to train students at a larger scale.
