Well shit, things are properly FUBAR'd now which makes sense historically and the desolate feel of the OP makes some sense now.
However, I won't be surprised if writers take some liberties as they already been somewhat. Quote:

I never doubted that this show was going to end the way the Alamo did. The penultimate battle reminded me of the South Korean movie, Musa, from way back in 2001, which also ended in tears and pride. If only Angolmois were better produced. It would have been that much more memorable.

Still one episode left to kill off the rest of the main characters? I assume Jinzaburou will use the boatjumping superpower to return from the sea, although perhaps he will need to ditch his armor. Hopefully that blast did not kill off the princess already.

8/10. Nothing much to say since I already guessed much of the ending.
I have the feeling that boy who wants to kill Jinzaburo might become the MC of the second invasion, if the manga covers that campaign.

Is there any historical accuracy to the type of fighting we see here and in other shows, where it's typically one-on-one? So many scenes that portray a single heroic individual facing a horde of attackers seem so implausible. The scene where the Mongols step aside to clear a path for Kuchii to face the Mongol general lying on the ground is one. I know it's supposed to represent the opponents' awe and appreciation for Kuchii's skills, but he could have easily been killed by the mass of Mongols he faced.

So only Jinzaburou, Teruhi and a bunch of kids and nobodies survived. I guess the old man who left on his boat might be alive, as well as Onitakemaru whose body was never shown (you don't kill a character like him off-screen). And then there's poor Kano, who knows what state she's in right now. Gotta admire her dedication to Teruhi, she knew full well what was awaiting her when she decided to act as a decoy.
Overall, a pretty good anime. I'd say it met my expectations. No more, no less. By the way, we never saw the scene from ep 1's flashforward showing Jinzaburou facing a rain of arrows, did we?
