Chuukan Kanriroku Tonegawa

Spinoff manga 'Chuukan Kanriroku Tonegawa' gets anime adaptation by Madhouse. Coming for 2018.

Plot:
Quote:
Chuukan Kanriroku Tonegawa is a spin-off of the Kaiji series, which follows Tonegawa, the right hand man of Kazutaka Hyoudou, the president of the Teiai Corporation and owner of numerous gambling tournaments. After Hyoudou is getting bored with his life, he orders Tonegawa to organize a so called "game of death" as it is his and his subordinate's job to keep the president in a good mood. Tonegawa must cooperate with his subordinates in order to make the president happy and what follows is a humorous story of his interactions with his subordinates and other characters of the Kaiji series.

Ep1

I should just drop this because of the incredibly annoying and unbearable narrator. I'm pretty sure this guy wasn't the one that did it in the other Kaiji anime...

I even liked the first episode, good animation and rhythm, and the story seems interesting, it's always good something related to Kaiji. But the narrator is really annoying, the Japanese also agreed, now it is either getting used to it or watching in the mute.

No, he wasn't. I was really thrown off by the new narrator at first, but when I realized they were aiming for comedy, he seemed relatively fitting. Still annoying, but I can probably get used to it. We'll see.

Anyway, looks like this show will basically be about what happened behind the scenes during the Kaiji series. Should be interesting. I can't say this episode was a very strong start, but the scene with Tonegawa trying to remember the names of the black suits was pretty funny.

Hmm, but I always thought Kaiji was a comedy.

Well, will have to see.

I'm disappointed that they didn't get Fumihiko Tachiki to narrate this spin-off, because his seriousness would have made this show funnier. The first half of the episode had too much recapping for the benefit of people who didn't watch or don't remember the first Kaiji TV series, plus some setup that made this seem like a serious prequel, but the second half made me laugh quite a bit. If the rest of the show will be like that, then I think I'll have a good time watching it every week.

I think it was creatively fun to watch especially with the Kaiji vibes. Character designs looks very familiar and the character dialogues entertained me so far.

Narrator was more bearable in the second episode. It's pretty fun to watch Tonegawa struggle so much when you already know which game he'll settle on. Now I'm curious to find out how they'll go back to rock-paper-scissors after he dismissed the idea along with the others.

I really liked this episode, the narrator does not bother me anymore, maybe because I saw the first episode 3 times. I loved the reference to Akagi.

well, the author never sought the public otaku or fujoshis in his work.

I wonder why he is only middle management if he's the no2 in Teiai?

I hope Kaiji makes an appearance in one way or another.

I'm really enjoying this spin off so far, really intriguing to see how Tonegawa deals with that demon of a president and dumbasses of men in black.

His voice actor was confirmed in the anime, I believe he should make an appearance.

Oh man, episode 3. The irony was off the charts. Tonegawa happily having a barbecue using the plate that will one day cook him.

I sure hope the Teiai guys clean it after use. Not that it makes it any less horrifying when you actually know what it's usually used for. Poor Yamazaki.

Okay, I love the narrator now. "Power Point!"

Tonegawa's human mahjong idea was actually pretty good, but Saemon-Saburo raised valid objections, and his Restricted Rock Paper Scissors was a better idea. I guess we'll have one more episode about them refining the idea and then presenting it to Hyoudou. Afterward, it'd be nice to see the game on Espoir from Tonegawa's point of view.
